great post I belived like many others that prior to 1904 the team went by the name of the boston pilgrims and before that the somersets but this misconception is explained in detail by Bill Nowlin auther states "I cannot find any contemporary indication that the Boston American League baseball club was ever known as the Pilgrims in 1903. It's a fairly widespread myth, though, which has taken on the appearance of fact." - Bill Nowlin in The Boston Pilgrims Never Existed.. google it it is quite an interesting read ...View More

In reading accounts of the 1903 World Series, I so often came across the team name "Boston Pilgrims" that I accepted this on faith as one of the names by which the team was known. I even used it myself, presenting it as fact,The official name was (perhaps) the Boston American League Ball Club, if we are willing to go by the team name provided for the signature line on the contract to play the World Series which was signed by the Pittsburgh Athletic Co. and the Boston club on September 16, 1903. the history is muddled by time ...View More

My biggest thing was the newest logo being from 1962 to current. I swear I've seen that logo dated 1999-current (or something like that)

Okay I found on Wikipedia that the newest logo there is dated from 1979 to present. And Play Ball I appreciate the sentiment and all that but you don't need to think I'm above you. I really don't think I'm any better than anybody else.

One thing to add...Might not be a bad idea to go ahead and make a separate blog, with the hats worm throughout the years. I've got all but two of the official everyday styles over the years, minus the specialty hats (St patties, etc)). great post!!!

9/11...N..
WHen I go home to my moms, I review the band symbol winners for each year that we had someone in high school. We were the Seekonk Warriors..back when that wasn't a problem. But I do remember, as I was in High School, a classmate of mine entering the contest and she won! Every year, when the high school kids would come by the house, whether selling chocolate bars or those decals, we would support our 'Warriors'. So much so that our front door was eventually COVERED! No square inch to see thru that glass anymore! One of these days, I'll go home and my mom won't be there and neither will those reminders.. Oh how time, marches on, whether we want it to or not... ...View More
