Throughout his career, Josh Beckett has prided himself on being the guy a team can count on when times are tough. In other words, there might be no better time than now for the ace of the Red Sox to go on the type of run he made commonplace in 2007.
Tim Wakefield, one of Boston's most consistent starters, will be placed on the disabled list on Tuesday. The Red Sox trail the Tampa Bay Rays by 4 1/2 games in the American League East. A win in Monday's finale of this seven-game road trip would give the Red Sox a split in Chicago, and a 4-3 mark on the journey.
Although Beckett hasn't been quite the same pitcher this year that he was a year ago, he still elicits plenty of confidence within the clubhouse.
