Q: Who is your favorite player?
A: Jonathan Papelbon
Q: What was the best season?
A: 2004
Q: My most memorable Red Sox related memory is...
A: My first thought is being at the Sox Parade when they won the series. Being at the game the day Papi tied the homerun record. I'm sure there's more if I got to thinking about it...
Q: If I owned the Red Sox I would...
A: fight to get Millar back in the dugout...even just for moral...I miss the hell outta that guy.
Q: If I could ask one current or former Red Sox player or owner one question, I would ask...
A: Grady Little...why the *F* didn't you take Pedro OUT?!
Q: The Yankees are...
A: evil. Altho I wouldn't want Sox fans to be only associated with their disdain for the Yankees.
Q: My favorite stadium other then Fenway Park is...
A: wouldn't know...never been.
Q: I wish Fenway Park had...
A: i like tradition...leave it alone.
Single Mom of 3 kids...die hard Sox fan since I was about 12. My favorite player is currently Papelbon...I love his intensity and his passion for the game...and for Boston! I'm still a Kevin Millar fan and root for him whenever he's NOT playing the Sox! I miss him!! Find me on myspace also...myspace.com/melly1376 :) The following is something I wrote as a blog entry shortly after the Sox won the World Series. It'll pretty much help to sum up myself as a fan. Enjoy *Ü* Being from the Boston area...baseball isn't just a sport, nor a hobby, nor simply just an interest. It's a way of life. It goes far beyond the players, the statistics, the wins or losses...it's tradition. A tried and true part of my life since I was a little girl. My earliest memories come when I was about 12 years old watching such greats as Mike Greenwell, Tony Pena, Dwight Evans, and even Wade Boggs. I still get goosebumps when I think of sitting on the couch next to my Mom during the 1990 playoff season and watching that amazing catch by Tom Brunansky in right field. If you had seen the reaction...you would've thought we'd won the lottery. It was then...that I knew...I was hooked. I was destined to become "one of God's most pathetic creatures"...a Red Sox fan. It has been said by most players in the MLB that there is just nothing like playing a game at Fenway Park...because of the fans. It's easy to love a team that has won 26 world series titles...but to love a team that has broken your heart time and time again is pure dedication :) We cheer when we win...we cry when we lose...we cross our fingers and still hold out hope when we're down by 8 runs because as a true Sox fan knows, it ain't OVA til it's O-V-A - OVA!!...we scream Yankees suck when we're playing the Twins...we heckle the right fielders(in fun fashion ofcourse!)...Fenway franks and $7 beers are a fine delicacy...even tho those wooden seats are too small for even a babies bottom, we find no place else in the world we'd rather be...we worship a big green monster rightly named "Wally"...we stand up and sing "Sweet Caroline" in the middle of the 8th inning...Dirty Water and Tessie are the anthem to our lives...we are the proud, the great, the idiots, the sometimes pathetic...members of Red Sox Nation! As it is said "with great power comes great responsibility"...it can also be said "with great sadness comes great joy". It never rang more true on that glorious day in October of 2004 when the Red Sox won their first World Series title in 86 years. I cried after the initial shock wore off and the only thing I could think to do was call my Mom...who was bawling like a baby. WE had waited for this day for nearly a century...and it had finally arrived in typical Red Sox style, coming back from a 3-0 defecit against the Yankees and then sweeping the Cardinals 4-0. After the Babes, the Bucky *bleepin * Dents, the Bill Buckners, and the Aaron Boones...our day in the sun had finally arrived...and having waited 86 YEARS for it only made it all the sweeter! The World Series trophy had finally come home to Boston...and what a PAHTY we had!<br> The sounds, the people, the lights...Fenway Park is a national landmark. The oldest baseball stadium in the country, the culture and history that park represents just oozes the minute you lay eyes on her, from Pesky's Pole all the way over to the Green Monster. Once you step foot inside your family has suddenly grown by 30,000 people or so. You're a Red Sox fan - you're family...nuff said. Most importantly, what the Red Sox have meant to me is a glue that has held many bonds. It gave a little 12 year old girl something in common with a 60 year old man...my Grandfather. His face would light up at every chance to tell a story and some of my favorite memories of him were his tales of watching the Sox as a little kid. Stories of the great Ted Williams and Carl Yazstremski. I would pray that he would have the opportunity to see them win a World Series before he died...their last win was 1918...before he was even born. I couldn't imagine going through my entire life and never having seen your team bask in the glory of making it all the way. He died 3 months after their historic win in 2004. It brought me closer to my Mother...my favorite Red Sox fan :) We've watched many games together either cheering them on and squealing in delight with long ball hits or great catches...and we've screamed at the tv in frusteration with dropped balls and bad calls(damn Grady Little!) She's the only one who gets me and what this team means to me...after all, she taught me everything and it was through her that I found the great love for the best team in baseball. My only regret was not getting to watch the Sox win the Series with her...but there's always next year, right Mom?! This is something that I will be passing down to my children as well...my oldest is already falling in my footsteps. They were taught at a very young age that the Red Sox are a passion...and the Yankees suck! :) I am a WICKED proud member of Red Sox Nation...and proud doesn't even scratch the surface. I'm passionate about MY team...it's the true epitomy of a love/hate relationship. It has brought me from states of euphoria to utter exasperation. It has been a living breathing force in my family for generations...and I wouldn't trade it for the world...or a measly 13 million dollars :o)~
