bostonherald.com - For Jon Lester, there is a price to be paid for being named the Red Sox’ starter for their second regular-season game in Tokyo - he won’t be joining his teammates on the flight to Japan.
Lester, who was announced yesterday as the starter for the Sox’ March 26 game against Oakland at the Tokyo Dome, will stay behind while the rest of the team begins their 17-hour flight tomorrow afternoon.
The plan is to have Lester throw in a minor league game Thursday, then fly to a to-be-determined destination that night. The next day, the left-hander will board another flight, which will reunite him with his teammates Saturday.
