The Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have released Doug Mirabelli.Mirabelli has long been Tim Wakefield's personal catcher, but his bat has declined over the past few seasons and the team apparently feels comfortable with Kevin Cash as Jason Varitek's backup. The newspaper notes that Mirabelli was in uniform this morning before being scratched from the lineup, so the decision seems to have been a sudden one.

ORLANDO - Curt Schilling's new 1-year, $8 million deal will include $2 million worth of incentives if he meets weight requirements. The team hopes to insure that Schilling will be fit when he comes to spring training camp, a source close to the negotiations said moments ago.
Schilling can earn another $2 million in clauses for meeting weight limits and an additional $3 million for performance bonues.
