DOUGIE...SEE YA

The Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have released Doug Mirabelli.
Mirabelli has long been Tim Wakefield's personal catcher, but his bat has declined over the past few seasons and the team apparently feels comfortable with Kevin Cash as Jason Varitek's backup. The newspaper notes that Mirabelli was in uniform this morning before being scratched from the lineup, so the decision seems to have been a sudden one.

The deal is done so I guess we have to live with it and hope that everything turns out o.k. We have made a few mistakes lately---trading Arroyo, Gonzo, and getting Gagne. Doug's bat was weak, but he could catch Wake, and once in a while he could surprise us and get a clutch hit. Crossing my fingers and hoping that this will slide. I hope Wake will learn to work with this new guy and all will be well.
