The Man of the House brought home a Wii the other night. Well, he challenged me to a boxing match. So being new to the Wii system, we of course practiced boxing against the computer a few rounds to get the hang of it before beating the crap out of each other. When it was my turn for a practice bout-he sat on the couch and laughed his ass off at my "boxing form". "You look like a cat scratching in its litter box."...

I just had to share this with my Sawxheads friends. I live just over 8 miles west of Luke Air Force Base. The F-16's fly over my home on a daily basis at different times of the day. (They are making passes right now as I am typing.) The local Surpise Arizona newspaper, again on a consistant basis, has complaints on the...

In honor of Tony Conigliaro. Happy Birthday Tony C.
A wonderful article I found from August 3, 1964 on Tony Conigliaro in his rookie season, from Sports Illustrated.
A teen-age rookie named Tony Conigliaro, a local Boston boy, is making it big with the Red Sox, which surprises him not a bit.
The first 16 times Tony Conigliaro—then only 18 and known to his friends as "Conig"—went to bat in...

Part Deaux (Part 1 was posted during one of the playoff games-in case you were wondering!)
So I'm sitting here minding my business, watching MLB . (how cool is the MLB channel?) I'm in my "baseball zone" and all is well with the world. In walks "SUPER-REMOTE MAN", strutting and puffy and pleased with himself as he proceeds to change the channel! Now granted, it was only the Bora$$ interview (and I swear the lights were flickering...

PEACE 14/09 wrote this 4 days ago on |
I found an article written by Alexander Edelman, that he derived from a version originally published in "1975: The Red Sox Team That Saved Baseball", published in 2005. Here are a couple of excerpts that I particularly enjoyed regrading the "surly" Jim Rice .
In 1982, Rice had a day that is long remembered in Boston. He had a difficult relationship with the press, who presented him as a surly,...

"This is a strange game"- Carl Yastrzemski
The Early Days
Umpires once invited criticism. In the 1800's baseball umpires wore top hats and asked players & spectators for their opinions on questionable calls.
Realizing that moisture on a baseball causes it to drop dramatically, Bobby Mathews, who later pitched a 297-248 won/loss record in the Major...

Remembering 1983

1983. It was the end of an era for me. This would be Carl Yastrzemski's last season. I can remember nothing else that is important to me from that year. I know there HAD to be other things going on in my life but I'm drawing a blank.
What got me going on this was a recent baseball memorabellia acquisition that arrived in yesterday's mail. I found it on-line and thought well, that would be cool to have as it was from 1983, Yaz's last year. ...
