New Signings Bring As Many Questions...
FenwayWest wrote this 1 day ago on |
After an extremely SLOW hot stove for the Red Sox we finally have some movement and it has some fairly big repercussions for the team. With each of the new signings we have a little bit of controversy or at least some unanswered questions. Let's take a look at the impact of each.

With recent news of Johnny Damon adding fuel to the fire it is time to look at the top 5 traitors in Red Sox history. There is no bigger sin than joining the Yankees by choice (this eliminates the Babe) so to qualify a player had to go over to the Evil Empire.

The Winter Meetings are fast approaching and this year they will be in Las Vegas. That's right, Vegas, baby, VEGAS! That means the print media and blogosphere will be filled with references to gambling through cheesy headlines. Look, it has already started and MLB.com leading the charge:

A Reflection on the Coco Trade
FenwayWest wrote this 1 month ago on |
After a year of wild speculation over what would happen with Coco, the end was swift and anti-climatic. The negotiations with the Royals were not leaked to the press so there was little pre-trade analysis on the deal.

Where's Your Beer Money Going?
FenwayWest wrote this 1 month ago on |
There is some shadiness going on with beer sales at Fenway. State Sen. Dianne Wilkerson was arrested by the FBI for allegedly taking bribes in return for issuing liquor licenses, she also oversees beer sales at Fenway Park. Is it possible for her to be skimming a little off of the top? The Boston Herald notes that there

What are your playoff rituals?
FenwayWest wrote this 3 months ago on |
As baseball fans we all have superstitions and rituals to help the Sox win in the playoffs. I 2 mini Red Sox helmets (the kind you get with ice cream at Fenway) on the TV along with a ball I caught before game 5 of the 2003 ALDS in Oakland. In 2004 when the Sox were down 3-0 against the Yanks I turned the helmets upside down to bring good luck to the Sox. That along with all of the mojo from everyone else turned the tide. I know these silly things have no outcome on...

You Can't Go Wrong Getting Another Beer
FenwayWest wrote this 3 months ago on |
As it was getting near the 7th inning cut off point for alcohol at Fenway on Thursday I went to the beer stand behind the bleachers for a Sam Adams Octoberfest. The line was about 30 people deep. A guy thecame up to me and said there was no line upstairs at the player's club and they had the World Series trophies up there. Score. I got a quick beer and a picture with the trophies, one of the more memorable beer runs in my life.

How the Yankees Blew It
FenwayWest wrote this 4 months ago on |
How is that the team with the highest payroll in baseball is not going to make the playoffs? The answer is simple mismanagement from the top down. In the past the Yankees became a good team by developing top talent in their farm system and adding expensive free agents to fill in the gaps. As George neared the end of his tenure he forgot about the farm system and traded most of the talent away for big name players. With an All-Star at every base they played well enough to

What number will Bay take?
FenwayWest wrote this 5 months ago on |
Jason Bay was number 38 in Pittsburgh and there is no word yet on what number he is going to have for the Sox, I wonder if Curt will give up number 38 if Bay asks for it. Since Curt's blog is 38pitches.com I would find it doubtful that Bay will get the number especially since Curt has a small chance of coming back next season. FYI Manny is said to be taking number 99 in LA since 24 has been retired.originally posted on

Sox Head Back Out West
FenwayWest wrote this 5 months ago on |
The Red Sox will start the second half in California just as they began the first half (after the Japan trip) only this time they will be in Anaheim. I remember hating West Coast road trips when I lived back East because of the late start but after the All-Star Game, all of you East Coasters should be used to staying up late. I will not be making the trip South because I will be playing in a softball tourney this weekend and with gas prices what they are it would cost me about $1000 to drive...

Joe Lemrie of SI noted the following about last night's game:• Oddest sight of the night wasn't so much that Red Sox and Yankees were sharing the infield but that Francona was wearing a uniform top. There was no word whether he even knew his own jersey number before last night. It was kind of odd to see Tito without the fleece warm-up over the uniform last...
