The Sox
October 16, 2007
good morning everyone, well that was about as frustrating a red sox game that i've watched all season, if you had told me before the game started that Dice K and the pen would give up a total of 4 runs, i would have said we would win that game....but the things that happened during that game last night ensure a loss: 1) bases loaded nobody out and you score 0 runs 2) You hit into 3 double plays on balls that are crushed with runners in scoring position 3) A player (david ortiz) gets hit by a batted ball while on 2nd base 4) I don't ever want to blame umps for a loss but his strike zone was all over the place 5) You leave 13 runners on base and that pretty much sums up last nights game, Dice K pitched OK, the thing i hate about him is that he nit picks, instead of going after hitters and that's why his pitch count rises every innning, he was having success with his fastball early on, then he gave up the homer to Lofton and completely went away from the fast ball, why i have no idea...the pen was outstanding with 3 1/3 scoreless innings from Timlin, Delcarmen and Okajima...how the Sox couldn't hit Westbrook after getting Sabathia and Carmona out of the game by the 5th is mind boggling...the sox need a spark and I think they should start Ellsbury in place of Coco or Drew tonight....as for the decision to start Wakefield tonight, i think that he'll come up big and then if we tie the series at 2, you want Beckett in Game 5 to hopefully put us up 3-2 heading back to boston...if the game gets rained out tonight like it may, that would allow the Sox to pitch Beckett tomorrow in Game 4 and then have hte option to bring him back for game 7 on 3 days rest...bottom line the Sox need to pound Paul Byrd tonight and score some runs early regardless of who's pitching, guys who need to start hitting: Pedroria at the top, he sets the table, he's been money all year, but he's hitting just .160 in the playoffs, Drew (obviously), and Coco so that we can get some speed on the basepaths...another fact, if our starters not named Beckett can't get past the 5th inning we have no shot in this series...hopefully Wakefield can have one of those great nights with his knuckle ball and the offense can break out against Paul Byrd, god know they are overdue for that...it's funny how quickly a series change, after the Game 1 rout of Sabathia, the Sox were playing great and looking invincible, but after the frustrating loss in games 2 and 3, it's the Sox that need to be resilient and find a way to win tonight and i believe they will...long way to go on this ride, go sox, in theo i trust and keep the faith people.. Brett
