Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox heard the glamorous designation being associated with him, and acted as if the words were "'American Idol' finalist." Actually, they were "most valuable player," but Youkilis shook his head, tapped his bat on the ground and immediately dismissed the connection. Me? M.V.P.? Not a chance. That is basically what Youkilis said about the possibility that he could win the American League's M.V.P. award this season. Before Youkilis would discuss his candidacy for a few seconds, he predicted who might snare the prestigious award. "If I'm putting my bet up there, I think Carlos Quentin or Josh Hamilton right now," Youkilis said. "I don't think I'm in there."
