Ah, yes, remember the good old days of Pete Runnels and Gene Stephens? How about the bad old days of Tom Oliver and Bobby Reeves?

Each of the above had a season in which he led the Boston Red Sox in stolen bases. Actually, that was only two seasons, because Runnels and Stephens tied for the team lead in 1960, Oliver and Reeves tied in 1930.

So what? Well, their stolen base totals represent all that was wrong with Red Sox clubs for too many of their 107 seasons in the American League.

Boy do I love watching the other teams pitcher jerk his chin and head over his right shoulder to watch another ICBM leave Fenway! That being said I also love these speedy guys that actually have some pop in their bats. Nothing is more exciting than a Sox win but this combination of speed and power is pretty much all new to us (for most part that is).
