Nice story on Jed Lowrie's thoughts on his first season with the Sox. Interesting quote from Theo Epstein "I think (Lugo) and Lowrie can also complement each other very well," general manager Theo Epstein told MLB.com. "We'll see what the offseason brings, what direction is best for the organization or if it's best to let it play out in the field."
on Interstate-95 South from Boston to Princeton, N.J., earlier this week, Jed Lowrie had time to reflect on what might have been.
The Boston Red Sox rookie shortstop was one game away from playing in the World Series. A 3-1 loss Sunday at Tampa Bay in game seven of the American League Championship Series — Lowrie made the final out on a hard grounder to second base — ended Boston's one-year reign as World Series champion.
Sure, the North Salem High School graduate would prefer to be in Philadelphia today, playing in the World Series. But it was a dream season for Lowrie.
"To run out onto the field at Fenway Park, every day I'm out there, I realize it's a blessing," said Lowrie, 24, a 6-foot, 180-pound switch hitter. "But at the same time, when the game starts, I'm out there to do a job."
It's a job he excelled at, especially in the field. Lowrie didn't commit an error during the regular season at shortstop, his primary position. He had two errors at third base.
In 81 games, Lowrie hit .258 with two homers and 46 RBIs. In his first major League game April 15, Lowrie had three RBIs in a 5-3 victory at Cleveland.
