Instant Replay: Yay or Nay?
August 27, 2008

Do NOT get me wrong, when the Sox get robbed of homers because the umpires make a swirly-finger-in-the-air call, talk about it, agree they're blind and reverse the run, it really burns me up!  Or when the ball hits the top of the wall and bounces upward and back onto the field, clearly a home run, and the umpires think they can deny the law of physics by saying the ball's still in play, I get really fired up!  But what about when that happens to the Yankees?  We cheer! So while we hate when calls don't go our way, do we really want to risk a call going in favor of our opponents thanks to advances in modern technology?  I'm gonna go with no on that one.  Instant replay's like a gateway drug.  First they'll use it to determine homeruns when they're in question.  Next they'll be doing replays on tags and balls and strikes and did Youk just scratch his nuts in the dugout?  Yeah, exactly.  I say NAY to the whole instant replay thing.  It'll suck the fun and adventure right out of the game.  And it'll leave a lot of guys with itchy nuts.

The Poet..
I dont like that it has been put in during the season. I think Selig should have took his time and installed the equipment in a off season and ran tests. The rest of the year will be a mess. I like the concept. But it does take away from the purity of the game.

I like the idea. Some calls are just terrible.

I vote gay-(not that there's anything wrong with that)-I'm a traditionalist-I STILL don't like the DH rule either!

But offi..
Yay*, I'm up for giving it a try, but see your point. No further than this, or we'll be watching lots of 4 hour games next year.

~Joe Sox..
Instant Replay should have been instituted next season, with a practice session completed in Spring Training. It is unfair to change it mid-season.

Talkshow..
The Instant Replay will only be instituted this year on series that begin on a Thursday so the Sox won't have it until then. (I wonder if that rule was specifically BECAUSE it let the Sox and Yanks out!) I say 'gay'.

It sure as hell seems like a rush by MLB to get it put into play before the season is over.I say that it should have been tried out first in Spring Training...or even AAA games before put into effect in the games that will decide some teams' post-season appearances. This is not the time to start changing things...even if it is for the greater good of the game.
