And, yes, we're blogging a spring training game. But, really, what else are you going to be doing? Working? Hah.
Enjoy.
UPDATE 2: That's 25 pitches over two innings for Josh Beckett, 19 strikes.
He has four strikeouts, two each looking and swinging.
Looks quite good. We should be getting a more detailed assessment from Beckett himself soon. (You know how expansive he likes to be on his pitching.) He should be done for the day after those two innings.
UPDATE 3: We have a bit of a game delay here, as BC shortstop Garret Smith slipped on a double by Dustin Pedroia to left field. He has come out of the game.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox have opened the game up in the second inning, scoring six runs off Steven Cadoret, who came in to replace starter Ted Ratliff. That included three walks, an infield single by Bobby Kielty, doubles by Pedroia and David Ortiz, and a single by Brandon Moss. (Not in that order, of course.)
Ortiz came out of the game, replaced by George Kottaras.
This hasn't exactly been a good inning for BC.
UPDATE 4:With two innings in the books, the Red Sox are winning by a score of 8-0.
And, right now, they're announcing the temperatures and wind chill up in Boston. It got a muted cheer from the crowd.
Many of the starters are out of the game, replaced by guys like Joe Thurston and Jeff Bailey. Brandon Moss has moved to first base. Kyle Snyder is in to pitch. Jason Varitek is one of the only starters still in the game (along with Moss).
UPDATE 5: With 5 more runs in the bottom of the 4th, the Red Sox now hold a 13-0 lead over the guys from Boston College.
UPDATE 6: A 9 spot in the bottom of the 5th now makes this officially a rout. As the Sox lead B.C. 22-0
UPDATE 7: Another 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th puts the lead now at 24-0. This is getting embarrassing, you have to feel bad for the Boston College kids. You know they were looking forward to putting out a strong performance.
UPDATE 8: The Sox took the field for the first time since winning the world series. With ace Josh Beckett on the mound, they dismantled the boys from Boston College in a total rout, 24-0
