Can Wake Pitch in a Monsoon or What?...

KrisSezGoSox wrote this 5 months ago on |
I don't blog very often here, but I wanted to give props to Wake for a gem of an outing tonight in some pretty nasty weather. After getting shelled in Texas, he certainly turned it around tonight, against a red-hot team no less. He and Manny Delcarmen shut out the Jays as the rain poured down at Fenway. Wake went eight innings, allowing only three hits and not a Blue Jay crossed the plate. Good offensive...

Let's hear it for Lester!

KrisSezGoSox wrote this 8 months ago on |
He was a stopper in a big way tonight, shutting out a team that scored 18 runs last night on just 5 hits. Quite possibly an even bigger feat than his no-hitter, considering the offense he was facing. A real gem of a bounce-back outing. Congrats to Jon Lester for stepping it up on a night when the Sox badly needed it. LET'S GO RED SOX!!!!

The Sox' road games lately have been frustrating to watch, that's for sure, but there is a silver lining to today's game: Manny found his bat! Sure, he made his first error on the season, but he got 3 hits and 2 RBIs! That day off yesterday must have done him a world of good! Now let's watch the Sox go knock the poor, scuffling Mariners around. Our boys are due for a good...

Congratulations to Justin Masterson for a solid 6 1/3 inning start and for picking up his first major league victory! And props to the 'pen for preserving that victory for him in such a tight game. The Red Sox have so many talented young arms who will be exciting to watch for years to come. They may be inconsistent at times, but they all have great stuff and we've seen two of them throw no-hitters. Masterson may...

Just eight months after the last one, another magical night at Fenway! This time it's Jon Lester and his victim is the Kansas City Royals. The heroic catch was made by Ellsbury. Those last four innings...I was even more nervous than I was for Buchholz's no-no. I didn't even want to THINK about a no-no, much less say it out loud. What a night! LET'S GO RED SOX!!!!!

Another sweep for the Sox! And a very...interesting series of games. Friday night gets rained out, forcing a Saturday double-header. Dice has another terrific outing, making him 7.0 and keeping the ERA slim with two unearned runs. He kept the walks down to 2 and struck out 6 over 6 2/3 innings. The nightcap turns out to be a comedy of errors, with the Sox committing 3 and the Brewers,...

KrisSezGoSox wrote this 10 months ago on |
Well, the all-too-ubiquitous Lugo error came much earlier than the 9th inning this time, but tonight's game was an unpleasant reminder of Wednesday night's tough-luck loss. Was Paps more nervous on the mound this time around because of what happened two nights ago? I know Paps is a pro and tries his hardest to put bad outings behind him, but he is, after all, human. He'll bounce back; he's too good not...

They're baaaack! Great game tonight by the reigning World Series champion Red Sox! Youk, Tek, and Kottaras went deep and many other players made a good first impression. For the pitchers, good stuff from Dice, Okie, Timlin, and with the exception of that solo shot, Tavarez. Aardsma was impressive, as was Kolb. Now that the season has come to a very happy end with the Red Sox as 2007 World Champions, there's something not-so-happy that will begin to set in as the post-World Series festivities die down: Acute Baseball Withdrawal. Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better: The starting pitcher overcomes cancer to pitch the winning game of the World Series. The intense, but unflappable closer comes in to get the final five outs of the game, the last out coming with a swing and a...

Last night belonged to the rookies, in particular Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, and Daisuke Matsuzaka. Jacoby was simply phenomenal, going 4 for 5 with 2 RBI (two of those hits in the same inning!) and Pedroia did more than his share himself, going 3 for 5, also with 2 RBI. Daisuke showed that he's a pitcher who can hit too, getting 2 RBI of his own with a single to left. That's 6 out of...

Speaking of Paps, how about that dancing "Papelpuppet" they kept showing? Sox fans are very creative:-)

Game 2 starter: Schill or Wake?

KrisSezGoSox wrote this 1 year ago on |
Playing three of the seven games of the World Series in Colorado presents a unique dilemma for the Sox' starting rotation. The thin air at the higher elevation could wreak havoc on Wake's knuckleball. One option that has been discussed is having Wake pitch Game 2 in Boston. That, however presents its own set of issues. Here are the pros and cons, as I see them, of starting...

Well, our boys did it, thanks in large part to the dominant pitching performance of Josh Beckett. It was nice to see the Tribe struggle at the plate for a change as Beckett baffled batter after batter. He didn't get much help from the home plate ump, that's for sure. If not for he-of-shifting-strike-zone, Beckett could have gotten upwards of 15 Ks, though 11 is nothing to sneeze at, for it tied his post-season...

Going into Cleveland with a 2-game advantage would have been very nice, but but the Sox can still work some magic at the Jake, just as they did at Angel Stadium last Sunday.

Beckett rocked the house again, keeping the Tribe's offense at bay while the Red Sox smacked their way to a 10-3 Game 1 victory!
