Angels Made Their Move; Boston Care To Counter?
Years ago when the Yankees made a move to "BUY" talent for another World Series Victory, Boston would often just sit back or take someone off of waivers that really was not equal to the talent purchased by New York. Later on, Boston wised up and often tried to match the moves of New York but, still did not always measure up or at best fell short, like with the AROD debacle. Now, we no longer see New York making the big moves instead, the Angels have taken over that role. First they obtain Hunter and now Teixeira. We will forget their Matthews error.
Meanwhile, Boston continues to loose a majority of their away games and now those loses are beginning to show up at home. We've lost a total of 12 games this month and four of the last five. We were nearly no-hit on Tuesday and scoreless against New York.
We might be looking at our standing and say we are doing pretty darn good but, folks, we can do much better. We certainly could use a SS with more experience, (Sorry Lowrie you know I care) and while Jacoby is struggling we really do not have a back-up that is going to put us back on victory road. So what can Boston do; what will Boston do? Will we settle for another middle reliever, will we look for the big name such as Holliday or will Boston stand pat and watch the Angels continue to shine?
We might decide to do nothing but, Boston be warned, you are not playing against your fathers Angels anymore and your not playing against the newly franchised Rays anymore either. You are in a serious race and as such you must take your team to the next level if you want to do more than just compete.
You must also remember Manny's words, 'I am tired of them and they are tired of me' and David Ortiz's torn sheath concerns. You must remember Jacoby Ellsbury has pretty much gone cold over the past month, you have a rookie SS that is good but, not fully ready to be productive on a daily basis and a catcher that, although beloved, really has a bad hole in his bat. If Boston were my fantasy team I would be making moves so that I could be better set to compete.
The Angels have made their move, Tampa has their pitching and power bats and Boston has a solid lineup that seems to be leaning towards slumpville. Is there anyone out there that could give Boston a face lift? Remember, although our last game with the Angels is today, we still have six games against Tampa and Six more against the Yankees. Please don't rest on your past laurels (which are awesome!) because I know you want to reach the playoffs and go beyond the Divisional series with the Angels.
Think about it!
Go Sox!
To continue the thought of what I wrote earlier (see above) I hardly see Bay as a help to Boston, he has too many holes in his swing. I see this move resulting in a 2007 type of JD DREW. Agree?
