Why We Need Mark Teixeira!
November 30, 2008

Getting Teixeira would be a watershed moment for Boston. David Ortiz needs to stay at his DH position in order to allow the greatest longevity of his career. We have been bouncing around with first basemen for sometime now and it is time we find someone solid, eager, able and ready to make a huge impact in Boston. Lars Anderson has talent but I am not sure he is ready.

Teixeira is a buy low type of player (due to past problems) compared to the talent he owns. Without those trials he would cost even more than what the going rate is for him now. Most believe his past trials are behind him. Boston leadership, hear words of wisdom and do not dilly around. Keep after this player, keep him out of Yankee hands and make a move.

Tis the season! Give! Give! Give! GET! GET! GET!

DRAFTAHOLIC!!!

How exactly is he a buy low player? He's going to cost the Red Sox a lot of money, maybe 15-20 million a year, that's no deal.

Tex is a franchise type player. Red Sox signing him would be a crushing blow to other teams in the AL East.

Obi-#Wan..
right now Teix has a .308 avg, 33 HR and 121 RBI out of 2008. But his 2007 stats were terrible. In the minds of many owners, there is no guarantee that Teix will duplicate his 2008 season and more speculation that he will duplicate his 2007 season. He seems to be an on again, off again type of player. This is why his value might take a bit of a hit. In reality Teix is capable of hitting well over 30 HR's but he has yet to do it. This is what I mean by a buy low type of player. ...View More

knarf its a deal when he begins to hit 40 + with 135+ RBI. It's a deal also if we protect Ortiz so that his injury issues will not be exasperated with 1st base play. I think it is a deal for Boston to finally get someone who we can keep for years on end.

Knarfy--it's going to cost a lot more than that. Try $23-$25 million. Teixeira is going to be no bargain, but if the Sox do land him I think we all know he'll be worth it.

Manny was no deal, but his stats every year, made him worth every penny. If Teix, gets a deal like Manny's, is he going to produce every year? I hope so! GO RED SOX!

Ortiz will not be playing first base, whether we get Teix or not!

Lyle Spencer, of MLB.com, reports the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are worried enough about an apparent knee injury to free-agent 1B Mark Teixeira (Angels) that they would resist offering him a deal for more than six years, according to CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler.

Teix wants 10 years. Anyone think he will get that deep of an offer?

This move scares me!!! I'm not convinced he will stay healthy and continue to produce. We are paying extra because he was great last year and in the playoffs. He's ceiling is Fred McGriff not Manny!!!

the moves that scare me is keeping lugo and trying to balance two or three players at first base. Teix has had two great seasons and one bad. Don't forget he still has to pass a physical which should tell all.

Love the Crime Dog! One of my all time favorites! I do think that Teix is capible of putting up 35-40 home runs, 125+ RBI and a .315-.320 average with pretty good consistency...I am slightly heistant on the 10 year deal as well, but he is young, and should be able to produce, with great success, for 10 years...wouldn't want him after that 10th season, however!
