1903: Cy Young and Brickyard Kennedy try to out pitch each other through five innings, but that changes in the sixth when Boston explodes for a then record six runs, and does not look back. Young pitched a complete game to pick up his first World Series win.
1904: Highlander pitcher Jack Chesbro defeats Boston to pick up his 41st win of the season.
1916: Game one of the World Series sees Ernie Shore battle Rube Marquard on the mound at Braves field in Boston. Neither team homers in Boston’s 6-5 win.
1946: The Star of the Cards 3-0 shut out of the Sox is Harry “The Cat” Brecheen. The Southpaw was only 15-15 in the regular season with an ERA of 2.49 and a veteran of three World Series. Brecheen held Boston to only for hits to tie the Fall Classic at 1 game a piece.
1967: The Cards bats wake up in tonight’s game, as the tag Gary Bell for three runs on five hits in the first two innings of the game powered by Lou Brock’s first inning triple to left center. St Louis wins the game 5-2 to tie the Series 1-1.
1975: The Sox sweep the A’s out of the American League Champion Series by beating them by a score of 5-3 in Oakland.
1986: Before a crowd of 32,993 Fenway Faithful the California Angels beat the hometown team 8-1. Roger Clemens had a 45 pitch inning to dig a hole the Red Sox could not climb out of.
2005: The BoSox quest to repeat as Champions came to an abrupt end at the hand of the visiting ChiSox losing the game 5-3. It is the first post season series win since 1917 for the Southsiders. Neither team starter fared well as both Tim Wakefield nor did Freddy Garcia only make it to the middle of the fifth inning, but despite there struggles they both keep their respective teams in the game. It was the White Soc that struck the first blow when Paul Konerko drove in Jermanie Dye with a home run in the top of the sixth. Manny Ramìrez struck back with a monster homer of his own, but it would not be enough as Orlando Hernàndez came in and closed the door, to give the Pale Hoes a 5-3 win.
2007: Curt Schilling shuts down the Halos until the last frame when they finally tally a run in the 9-1 series ended win. Both Big Papi and Man Ram homer to power the offense for Boston.
