October 28
1951: Boston sends catcher Les Moss and Outfielder Tom Wright to the Browns (Orioles) for catcher Gus Niarhos.
2007: Game four pregame ceremonies included Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers being presented with the Hank Aaron Award. The American League winner was Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.
While Trisha Yearwood sung the “Star Spangled Banner”
Once again the Bo Sox strike first in the game. Rookie Jacoby Ellsbury started off the 1st inning with a double and was advanced by fellow rookie Dustin Pedroia with a ground out. Next David Ortiz would send him home with a RBI single.
Mr. Consistency Jon Lester held the Rockies scoreless for 5 2/3 innings to help seal the win for the Sox. In the top of the seventh inning Mike Lowell would hit a ball deep into the mile high night to make the score 3-0.
The country music theme continued in the seventh inning when Lonestar sung “God Bless America”
The bottom of the seventh Colorado would try to cry back in to the game. In a last gasp to send the Series to a game 5 Rockies left fielder Brad Hawpe hit a dinger off Massachusetts native Manny Delcarmen to bring Colorado with in two runs.
The very next inning Bobby Kielty would take Brain Fuentes first pitch of the inning to the crowd in left field to put the Sox back up by three runs.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Hideki Okajima would give up a one out single to Todd Helton, and followed that with a two run shot by Garrett Atkins to pull the “Rocky Mountain Warriors” once again with in one run.
The River dancing Jonathan Papelbon was brought in to close the game and deliver a second Commissioner’s trophy to the HubCity. Just like the UPS man every Thursday, Paps delivered at 12:06 pm EST he struck out Seth Smith for the final out. Boston was once again World Champions for the second time in four years and it’s seventh over all.
Mike Lowell was named World Series MVP.
