1930: New Englander Shano Collins is appointed the new Manager of the Red Sox.
1953: The Washington Senators send “Golden Boy” Jackie Jensen to Boston for southpaw Maury McDermott and OF Tom Umphlett. Jensen would avarage 25 home runs in his first seven years in Fenway, and would lead the League in RBI’s three times. Then just he would be named the American League’s Most Valuable Player for 1958.
1961: Red Sox rookie pitcher Don Schwall is named Rookie of the Year for the American League. The 25-year old right-hander made the All Star team despite make his big league debut five weeks into the season. Schwall compiled a 15-7 record on a team the finished ten games under .500.
1970: Boston obtain and future Hall of Fame shortstop Luis Aparicio from the White Sox in exchange for second baseman Mike Andrews and infielder Luis Alvarado.
2005: The Red Sox acquired pitcher Jermanie Van Buren from the Cubs for a player to be named later or cash.
2005: The Red Sox petition a judge in order to keep the ball that was used to record the last out of the 2004 World Series. After catching the lob from Keith Foulke former first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz loaned the ball to Boston but continues to claim ownership of the sensational sphere.
