1940: Boston sells P Denny Galehouse and P Fritz Ostermueller to the St. Louis Browns (Orioles).
1959: The Red Sox trade Pete Daley to Kansas City for Tom Sturdivant.

1968: The Cardinals trade Dick Schofield to Boston for Gary Waslewski.
1968: The Rules Committee adopts a series of changes designed to increase the amount of offensive run production in both leagues. The two most significant alterations are a decrease to the size of the strike zone, a lowering the pitcher’s mound from 15 to 10 inches. One of the reasons the pitcher mound is lowered is the dominating performance of Bob Gibson. The changes result in an increase of scoring in 1969.
1970: Pitcher Paul Byrd is born in Louisville, Kentucky. Byrd joined the Red Sox on August 12, in a deal with the Indians. The originally called for the Sox to send a player to be named later or cash, but do Boston’s willingness to full $2 million dollars still owned on his contract.
2007: Former Red Sox Manager Dick Williams is elected to the Hall of Fame.
