This Day in Red Sox History.
December 3, 2008

December 4
70 Days till Pitchers and Catcher report
1916: An official announcement is made stating the Harry “No No Nanette” Frazee and Hugh Ward have purchased the Red Sox from Joe Lannin.

1943: Boston purchases Indian Bob Johnson from the Washington Senators. Johnson would have two solid seasons in BeanTown before retiring, causing Senators owner Clark Griffith to call it the worst trade he has ever made.

1957: The Major League owners raise the minimum salary to $7,000 and eliminate the bonus rule.

1964: The owners decide to use a free agent draft beginning next month. The inverse order of the previous year’s standings will be used to select players every four months.
