schadenfreude
schadenfreude \SHOD-n-froy-duh\, noun: A malicious satisfaction obtained from the misfortunes of others.
Whenever I have to work when the Sox are playing, I always bring up www.mlb.com and follow the game thru the scoreboard. I did that night before last and saw that Phillies Pitcher Brett Myers had a no hitter going into the 7th.
You may remember Brett Myers as the wife beating idiot who punched his wife in the face on a busy Boston street with lots of witnesses just as a game was getting out at Fenway. A number of Red Sox fans called police from cellphones to alert them to the assault that was taking place.
Two days later when Myers took the field for interleague play, Red Sox Nation greeted him with a singsong chant of "wifebeater, wifebeater" each time he came on the field.
Myers is 6'4" and weighs 240. His wife is 5'4". and weighs 120. He throws a baseball 90 mph. Want to guess how he throws a punch?
After his court ordered anger management classes, he scremed at a reporter after blown save and called him a f'n idiot and a retard, during a press conference.
There have been other incidences, but when you think of how the Red Sox pitchers compose themselves for their postgame interviews, try to imagine ANY of them calling a reporter a f'n retard. It ain't going to happen.
Having no respect for Brett Myers, I was actually pleased when he lost the bid for a no hitter.
Brett Myers does not have the character to be a Champion. He does not deserve to be in the Hall oF Fame and he certainly does not belong in the company of John Lester or Clay Bucholdz.
