Baseball is known as the "thinking man's game"...well most of the time. The following are some momentary lapses of reason.
"Man it was tough out there. The wind was blowing about 100 degrees."-Mickey Rivers
"We're not the brightest tools in the shed." --Doug Mientkiewicz, on his Red Sox teammates
"Two weeks-maybe three. You never know with psycho-somatic injuries." -Jim Palmer, on how long he'd be on the DL
"It's a good thing I stayed in Cincinnati four years. It took me that long to learn how to spell it." -Rocky Bridges
"That's why I don't talk. Because I talk too much." -Joaquinn Andujar
"All I'm asking for is what I want." -Rickey Henderson
"Sometimes they write what I say and not what I mean." -Pedro Guerrero
"I'm a four- wheel -drive pickup type of guy, and so is my wife." -Mike Greenwell
"The only problem I have in the outfield is with fly balls." - Carmelo Martinez
"Not true at all. Vaseline is manufactured right here in the United States." - Don Sutton, when accused of using *foreign* substances.
Steve Balboni: "Hitting your first grand slam is a thrill. I'll always remember this." Reporter: "You hit one two years ago." Balboni: (pause) "You're right. I guess I forgot about that one."
The actual players aren't that smart. A lot of these guys are recruited out of high school, then go to the minors, etc. There is little emphasis on education. It's a thinking man's game for those who watch. 02/06/2009 7:04 AM
Rickey Henderson also checked into a hotel during his career, and wanted to usa an alais...the clerk asked what he would like to register under and he chose "Rick" Henderson.

That Rickey story right above is too funny. Leave it to Rick! Lets not forget about after the Sox won the World Series in '04 and Manny was asked about breaking the curse and he said they didn't believe in that, that he believed you make your own destination! That was funny. My fav of the ones posted above is the Steve Balboni quote about hitting the grand slam! I never heard that one before, too funny! Thanks ...View More...View Less
