Would you be against Pedro coming back?
February 15, 2009

When the Mets agreed to terms with Livan Hernandez early Saturday morning, many experts and MLBTR readers suggested that it meant Pedro Martinez would not be back with the club in '09.

Mets GM Omar Minaya basically confirmed that theory Saturday evening.  The Associated Press, via The Newark Star-Ledger, gathered the quote:

"I think we are pretty much set and we're going to go forward with the guys that we have," Minaya said.

With that said would you or wouldn’t you like to see Pedro back with the Sox in 09?

Here is the link so you don’t think I’m just making this up.

Yes i feel the same way i was just wondering what everyone felt. Let me ask you this what if hes still out there in like may or june and we got someone hurt i think i might try and get him in that case.

Pedro is another prima donna, just like manny. Maybe they can both move to the Dominican and start a business togther.

I don't really see this as an option. Petey is well past his ability to be effective in the American League.

I had heard Pedro wanted to retire after last year and the death of his father. I loved him with the sox.Gratefull for 2004 and the Zimmer roll.

Its funny that people are asking questions about Schilling but are saying Petey is past HIS prime. If he would take on a bullpen role, id snatch hime up in a heart beat! Just like Smoltz, you can never have enough experienced pitching late in the season!

Pedro is my favorite Sox player of ALL TIME. Anyone who can't appreciate his pure talent and his ability to know who to get hitters out during his years with the Sox is doing themselves a huge disservice. However I am unsure about this one for selfish reasons. I would hate to see Pedro come back here and struggle, possibly get booed and tarnish his image as one of the greatest Sox pitchers ever. He has already been put on such an unrealistic petestal from his truly great years that 16 or 17 win seasons towards the end of his Boston run were considered "dissapointing" by some I would hate to see how he might be viewed now. To me there is no more fitting way for him to end his Sox career then what he did in his last start in the World Series, the year the Sox finally won it all. What a way to go out. However if he was to convert to a reliever I think he could bring a lot to the table, I'm just not sure that's something he wants to do especially in a town that he once ruled. Eithere way I look forward to the day that Pedro goes into the Hall Of Fame as a Red Sox great. ...View More

Just curious... why do some think it's/was "O.K." for Pedro to use old man Zimmer's head as a bowling ball...but condemn Manny for an altercation for reasons we'll never know...Not that I care really I don't .. Regardless whether Zimmer started it or not..he's an elder BUT Damn I would NOT be very proud of my actions if I was Pedro...again I'm just curious on the the justification against my perception of a double standard.

I would love to have Petey back. Maybe not in the starting rotation, but he'd be a great mid-relief guy.

What was Pedro supposed to do, run away? That incident is so overated anyway, he saw Zimmer charge him and shoved him away, Zimmer's own weight and his feeble attempt to run caused him to knock himself over practically. Remember it was Zimmer who was crying and apologizing for the incident afterward. He knew he was in the wrong.
