Why Boston? Why do u like the sox so much ? Thats just a couple of questions that I have been asked over the years. My obsession with the sox started when i was born in Boston, but really got big about 6 years ago, when i was on the east coast on my yearly vactation to my lake house on lake sunappe , New Hamshire. I strarted watching the sox game on tv every game, and just got really into it, and it became huge in my life. My dad who has also been a sox fan his entire life and was born in New Hamshire warned me that I should be carefull with the obsession because the sox will "break your heart" . He had been through a whole lot more than I had. He was there when Bucky freakin dent hit the homer , when the ball whent through buckner's legs.....ugh . And then i joined in when Grady little stuck with perdro in the 8th inning and Aaron Boon hit the homer off Wakefeild in extras to give the yankees the win in the American league championship series. I remeber going to bed that night after boon hit the homerun all sad and my dad said ...."ItS OK pal, you will get used to this kind of thing with the sox, ive been going through this for years." Clearly, he was right, and after that point, it became more than just a game and more than just the sox, it became my life. To quote on my of my favorite movies Fever Pitch..."I had become one of god's most pathetic creaters .....a Redsox fan." Then along came...04. The seaon started out like anyother, the yankees were doing annoyingly well, and the sox were right behind them. I had and still have an Mlb.com mlb tv subscription so i could watch all the games ( which is 80 bucks but its worth it). Everytime the sox came to oakland I would join all the rest of Red Sox nation living on the West Coast and cheer the sox on decked out in my sox gear. That same summer over my vacation to Boston I whent to Fenway to see a sox game and that was amazing . The school year started and the sox were getting closer and closer to the playoffs . Was it going to be diffrent this year? The regular season finished once again with our faces in the yankees ass, but we got the wild card and were once again in the playoffs hoping the Revurse the curse that we all hated so much. The Division series against the Angels whent 1. 2 .3 and the sox moved on to the American League Championship Series against the yankees. Things got really depressing with the sox whent down 3 games to none , and were one game away from ellimination. Most sox fans were saying...here we go again...or just another year with the sox....the curse continues. The day the sox lost in game 3 19-8 was actually my moms wedding day. I coulnt watch the game that day but i remeber checking the scrore frequently and noticed the score kept getting worse and worse. My uncle John who lives in Malbro, Mass. was down for my moms wedding and I remember sitting with him, and hearing him say that " Thats it" its over, we wont come bake from this....little did any of us know that we would. The series when to game 4 and with the score 4-3 and Reviera about to close it out , the sox game back with a single, a stolen base another single and Big Poppy in extras to win. Next game, big poppy again and then it just kept going. In game 7 the sox crushed New york 10-3 in the Bronx, and the sox had completed the greatest comback and sports history . Being down 3 games to none , facing ellimination and coming back to win 4 in a row and win the pennant .My uncle was shocked to say the least and we all were for that matter. It just seemed like it shouldnt happen, like no , the sox are not supposed to do this, they are not supposed to go to the world series....but they did and the curse had been broken. The world series rolled around and the sox , in a valliant effort from every player ( shillings blody sock, lowe and pedro ) the sox swept the st. louis cardinals in 4 games to win the world series for the first time since 1918. Can u belive it? I remeber sittin in my living room watching the game and I was speechless, I could not belive wat had just happened. I just put my arms up and got watery eyes. My dad actually cried, he pulled me close and said " Im so glad u got to see this in your life time" . Its funny that he said lifetime, but he meant it, he had been watching the sox for all 48 years of his life and not once had they won the world series , and to see them win just made him so happy. I get to tell this story to my kids when im older and thats awesome. After all of this, my love for the sox became more of a way of life for me. Painting my room red and blue , and decking out my walls with all my sox stuffs and news paper acticles from the Boston Globe were on on my wall, and I continue to watch and obsess over the sox. I know my obsession is not as big as say someone who lives in Boston or out on the east coast and who has season tickets but that is wat i will do later in my life. Its not just a team that I watch , its a part of my family , and a big part of my life. U can talk sh*&t or do watever u want with this , i dont really care. To me there is nothing better than having something that U care about so much in your life. I am proud to be a member of Redsox Nation, and Maybe this year, 2007 will be the year once again . These days..on a clear night in Boston, u can almost see October. Keep the Faith! Go sox!
