Lugo

Lets face it Red Sox fans Julio Lugo is not one of the best Red Sox sort stop they ever had.  He bats ninth because he is not a powerful hitter.  He only has 1 home run, 22 RBI;s and 12 stolen bases.
Remember when the Red Sox had Hanley Ramirez he wasn't that good but look at him now with the Marlins, even though we traded him for Beckett and Lowell but im sure if tony(red sox manager) would of put more effort into the trade things could of worked out differently. if we would of kept him, the Red Sox line-up would be great.
Jed Lowrie only played 19 games and has 1 home run, 7 RBI;s. He should be starter not Lugo!!
I hope all of you that read this will agree with me.
I think he needs to go at the end of this year!!!

- Go Red Sox

If we would have kept Ramirez then we would not of gotten Beckett and Lowell. Would we have gotten that 2nd World Series Title in the last 4 years without them? Lugo may be the weak link now and trust me I am not defending him or his stats, I find myself cringing everytime he makes a plate appearence but the way the dominios fell over the last couple years I am not complaining of the overall product that the NOG has put onto the field and that includes Lugo. ...View More

Uhhhhh, yeah. Lugo will be out for at least another five weeks so we'll see what Jed can do. If memory serves me correctly Hanley Ramirez was our top prospect. You are mistaken on one point though. Tony Francona didn't make the trade. Terry Epstein is the GM and is responsible for trades and what not. But I think the Beckett/Lowell trade happened when Epstein was on a break so it was Joe Hoyer and the other guy who's name escapes me that made the Beckett/Lowell trade. ...View More

In the real world, things aren't always so cut & dried...black & white. The Boston Red Sox signed Julio Lugo to a 4 yr[I believe]contract;they saw something in him that they thought would translate to him being a successful SS for the team.I still don't believe that he's just all-of-a-sudden lost that something that made the Red Sox want him to be a part of the team in the first place. Some players, for whatever reason, simply cannot adjust to playing in a new city for a new team-see Edgar Renteria-but they just don't cut bait on said player...instead,they try and help the player turn it around, become the player he was when they initially wanted him, become an even better player for his new team. I believe that they were on the right track ,in this regard, with Julio...his play in the last couple of weeks before he became injured, seemed to be taking a turn for the better.Yes,they have one Jed Lowrie,an up and coming player, who hopefully one day will be the Red Sox SS...but I think that it would be wrong to expect the results that we got from Jacoby Ellbury last year when he was put in a similar situation from Lowrie. The Red Sox are committed to Julio Lugo...not just through the contract that they signed him to,but because of the type of organization they are.If they do cut bait on him, there are no winners...they will do what is best for the TEAM,and JULIO LUGO. They are not the kind of organization to just throw a player away...that's not how you treat a person, not only a player. There are no easy, instant fixes to this dilemma. We,as fans, should support & help ALL OF OUR PLAYERS when they are going through tough times...so the winner will ultimately be THE TEAM. I don't know how this situation will be resolved;but it's not just going to go away because one of the individuals involved is injured. We will probably be talking about this in Spring Training next year. So,cut him a little slack...are you going to be doing the same to Jason Varitek next??? ...View More

We have won a championship with Lugo too. It's easy to support someone when they're doing well but keeping the Faith means getting behind someone when they are not doing well too.

AMEN MIKEY!!!!!!!!!! i mean, of course, how could you not think of Edgar Renteria...or, if you wanna open up to a page in my book, you'd see "big failure in boston..." you'll see eric gagne...yes, still a failure in Mil...but lest we should not forget 2003 gagne...84 saves in a row...ok, thats my speal about that...now, about lugo...yes, the red sox are NOT the yanks, they will not make quickfire deccissions for the sake of making them...they take their time and cover all angles, that includes the players best interest [novel concept i know] and he may not be the STRONGEST ss in the league right now, but there is obviously a reason he is here and steps foot onto the field at fenway park on a daily basis. it is sad that he is injured, and i hope that lowrie excels as much as i would like him to...i just hate all "bashing" that goes on within the nation...look, everyone bashed the SH*&T out of drew last near, now the guy has his own effin bandwagon all to himself...i knew that this season would be outstanding for him...now [besides his current injury] is preventing lugo from having a stellar second half?? i think he will come back and pick up where he left off...which was doing great things offensively and defensively...he really stepped up him game...even on that play he got hurt on, he was PUSHING SO HARD and he was safe...how can you not admire that in someone?? he was giving his all!! really though...'nuf said... ...View More

Red Sox Manager: TERRY FRANCONA Also, it's Should've, which is short for "Should have"; not "should of". Yes! Let's look at Hanley Ramirez. He's doing quite well. And, who did we get in return? JOSH BECKETT AND MIKE LOWELL. Mike, who was the 2007 World Series MVP, and Josh, who is one of the most-dominant pitchers in the league. Would I love to have Hanley? Sure! But, this was a great trade! Finally, it's not the manager (TERRY FRANCONA) who made the trade, it was the Red Sox front office, which is led by THEO EPSTEIN! Please! Get your facts straight, or we'll trade you to the Yankees! ...View More

One of my friends said something the other day that will stick with me for the rest of my life. He wasn't directing this toward me or even sports in general but it applies to just about everything in life. "You turn your back on one, it's like turning your back on them all." There are very few of us who will never give up on Lugo. He may not be the best but he still wears the Sox uniform with pride. He hustles down that line EVERY SINGLE TIME. It was that hustle and heart that has placed him on the DL. Losing hope on one player is like losing hope on the whole team. Don't kick a man when he's down. Help him up. ...View More

BoSox Ho..
I think Jack Lugo is a fine player, just needs some tweeking, is all. As far as Thursten Francona goes, he's probably the last to find out who he's going to get for players... at any rate, I doubt a better trade for Hamilton Ramirez, could have been made but maybe we COULD have gotten better, had we been nicer to the Rays. Oh and Juniper Lowrie probably needs to be groomed a little and not rushed. Could be when the trade deadline comes, we may be able to make an even-steven swap with the Yankees for Anesto Rogriguez so he'd even be playing ss again. Honestly kid, I'm teasing..don't let these guys/gals get you down. They're passionate about their Sox and I wouldn't want it any other way. Neither should you. ...View More

Wow! And wow spelled backwards is still wow. That's a palindrome. My favorite palindrome is racecar. Lugo is here because of they way he tore up the Sox when he was with the D Rays. Still a very curious signing considering his low OBP.

But...But...If they trade Lugo, I won't be able to sing "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" every time the shortstop comes to bat! Seriously, though, we'll see what happens while he's on the DL. I agree with Hooligan that Lugo comes to the park every day with hustle and heart on his mind, and he gives to the team and wears his Sox uniform with pride. I was thinking, during the All-Star Game, about how Hanley Ramirez had been our top prospect (I saw him play in the Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown a few years ago, and he was fun to watch). However, we would not have had Beckett and Lowell without having given up Hanley. So there are always tradeoffs. And Lugo is FAR better than Reteria!!! Renteria always looked like a deer in the headlights to me, whether in the field or at the plate. We'll see how well Jed does. I think he'll be fine, but I still think Lugo has "believed" in the Sox. "I'm on my way, I don't know where I'm going...good-bye to Rosie, the queen of Corona, seeing me and Julio, down by the schoolyard..." (I'm a little crazy with song lyrics this morning--don't know why.) ...View More

I agree with all the above comments, Hanley was traded and got us Beckett and Lowell who are huge pieces to the Red Sox puzzle. We would not have won without them. Lugo was starting SS on championship team, he has struggled but he is a good player. Lowrie has a chance to show his stuff and I like his makeup. Before blogging do a little research and make sure you get names right!!!
