9/26/08 - Sox & Yanks - Wet night at Fenway
September 27, 2008
Headed to Boston Friday afternoon in a monsoon...rained like crazy all the way into the City. Met Scott at the Marriott in Cambridge and got myself organized for the big game. Umbrellas, sweatshirt, raincoat, rainpants, towel, jersey, hat, etc. I wasn't sure of if we'd get the game in, but I checked my trusty Blackberry and Accuweather's radar and forecasts showed we would have a break about 8pm. Got the breaking sports e-mail that the Pesky deal was pushed to Sunday, kind of a bummer...
It sure didn't look like that as we got to the stadium. (Minor detour on the T, we started on the train going the wrong way, whoops!) Headed to The Bleachers, the new bar under center field. Pretty awesome place. You can look out onto center field through the old garage door. You can even watch the game while you hit the men's room, I'm pretty simple, but that was the coolest view. (Of the field, that is.)
They were not really serving much food, so we had a couple beers and left and headed over to the Cask and Flagon about 6:30pm. Our waitress was a royal pain in the azz...she didn't want to be there and we decided to give her a small tip. The big tip was "smile and pretend you want to be in the service industry." Oh well, the beer was flowing and so was the food.
NESN was on and we saw them starting to pull up the tarp, so we got a last beer or two and headed over to the seats. The seats kicked azz and we got settled in. Sox were up early, but then it all went down hill from there. My wife called to tell me we were on TV (see pictures in my album) and from there, we were typical goofs when the red light went on. Security came over once and gave us a warning, but I don't think it was warranted. We talked to him again and he said someone complained that was standing in front of us. Uh, they were blocking our our view Dude! We barked at them. Meanwhile, swear words flew from up behind our seats. Oh well, we were on our best behavior.
Fourth inning, the rain hit us again...we went under for an ice cream and by then the beer had been shut off. Weird rule at 9:30pm, or the seventh inning. Uh...the game didn't start until 8:35...WTF? No biggie, I was full. We headed back to the Cask after the seventh inning and then hit the road later that night. I was surprised, but thankful the game got in, although it would have been better if they called prior to the end of the 5th and gave the Sox another chance at it. The Yankees pounded them, I think 19-8.
