| As we all know, Tek is on the open market, with Scott Boras pulling the strings. There has been much said about what stance the Sox front office should take, concerning their captain. Should he stay, or should he go?
Here are some observations and thoughts on the subject. If I come across as schizophrenic, my apologies. I, too, am struggling for a solution. While my brain says "business is business", my heart says keep Tek in the family.

| The Red Sox backs are up against the wall - there is no "wiggle room". Tim Wakefield takes the mound tonight, in a must-win situation. If they go down 3 games to 1, it could mean the end of a tumultuous season. We have to remember that this is not the 2004 or 2007 version of our beloved team. This is a team with injuries, a team without across-the-board dominance, a team in transition.

| This is repulsive!
I have been reading some wonderful blogs over the last few weeks, and have seen several members of the SH family leave some glowing comments about said blogs, and the heartfelt efforts, contained.
Then, as if the tides magically turn, the downvotes start coming in, and the ratings for these great contributions take a nosedive. No comments are left - just the downvotes.

It was the Summer of '69. I was twelve. My dad and I had made the hour and a half drive from Connecticut to Fenway, to take in a Sunday afternoon game. | Ed and I traveled up to Fenway, to see the Sox take on the Texas Rangers. It rained like hell most of the trip, but was clear and sunny when we arrived.
We made our way to Yawkey way, and stood there, to take it all in. Since the "Will Call" window wouldn't open till five, we decided to eat at the Bleacher Bar. After that, we headed down to the NESN broadcast booth, where we met Rem Dawg. He couldn't have been more cordial.

| So, I'm heading back east, for the first time in several years, tomorrow. First, four days in enemy territory (NYC), then home to Manchester, Connecticut.
I hear it's changed a lot. A lot of the old haunts may not be there, anymore. Bentley School, where Ed and I used to play ball almost all day, everyday, is being demolished, to make way for a new facility. I hope I get back in time to see it, even a part of it. I want a brick, for my office.

| In second grade, 1964, at Bentley School, in Manchester, Connecticut, this new kid showed up to Miss Freeman's class. He was introduced to everyone, as "Ed".

| In the last All-Star Game, in the last season to be played at Yankee Stadium, the cream rose to the top, as one of the seven members of the Boston Red Sox, J.D. Drew, goes 2 for 4 with a game-tying two-run home run, reaches base three times, and is rightfully awarded the All-Star Most Valuable Player Award.
The stands were virtually empty, as the Yankee fans who were present, couldn't stomach the idea that one of our boys won the game for the American League.

| Although I'm extremely pleased by the prospect of having seven Red Sox in uniform for the upcoming All Star Game, I am dismayed by one glaring omission - where is Mike Lowell?
Close to batting .300, 13 homers, and having a Gold Glove season at third. I think he deserves to be there. Conversely, and this may be a matter of need, why Tek, who is having an off-season? I'm not dissing the Captain, but shouldn't Mike be in his place?

| I have friends on this site, who are hurting. And, I hurt, for them. Loved ones who are sick, elderly parents, divorces, job loss, lonliness, uncertainty.

| I remember going to Fenway Park with my dad. As we lived in Connecticut, it was about 1 1/2 hours to the park, and the anticipation grew as we traveled up the Mass Pike. We would always go fairly early, usually getting there at about 11:00 AM for a day game, so that we could see batting practice and, hopefully, I could get one of the players to look over my way, for a photo, or an autograph, whatever. | First, a piece of friendly advice - do not listen to sportstalk radio, while driving down the freeway, if you've got a temper.
Me, I try not to let the detractors bother me. But, here I am, on the 95 freeway, listening to the Dan Patrick Show, on ESPN. He had some bonehead on the show, and they were discussing the best teams in the MLB.

| I hosted a party tonight, at Cashman Field, the home of the Las Vegas 51's, the triple A affiliate of the L.A. Dodgers. My evening started when I showed up in full Red Sox swag - my 2004 World series cap, and my personalized Sox away jersey, with #57 emblazoned on the back - and some smart-ass said "WRONG TEAM!".
