1975, the year of the gold dust twins, Rice and Lynn, two legitimate rookie of the year candidates and two extremely gifted players.
Lynn would go on to win the rookie of the year and the mvp award that year but Rice’s numbers were also quite impressive. In 1975 at the age of 22 Jim Ed hit 309 with 22 home runs and 102 rbis before the injury that effected the series hopes of the Boston Red Sox occurred . Rice had a broken hand. With about 10 days to go in the season, Vern Ruhle hit him in the left hand and crushed two of his knuckles. he took the cast off because he didn’t want to be a spectator, but he couldn’t play. If he could have played history might have been different . I'm not partial to Jim Rice am I? Admittedly I am. Jim Rice was seen as a successor to Carl Yastrzemski in left field for the Boston Red Sox. This right-handed batter was a force to be reckoned with in the 70s and 80s. He was at the time one of the most feared hitters in baseball , when Jim ed came to the plate you could almost hear the opposing pitcher groan , the 1975 world series was one of the best and most competitive series in history,
What would 1975 have been like had Rice played in that series .?
I think I know, I think we all know ,
