What's the craziest thing you've done to get to a Sawk Game?
May 16, 2008
I've already shared my story about being there at game 7 of the 2004 ALCS. Another dedicated moment was when I went to Fenway to see my first Cardinals/ Red Sox interleague game. The game went into extra innings. The next day I drove from Boston to New York to go to see Roger Clemens make history with his 400th win and 3000th K. I was so tired that I could not stay beyond the 6th inning and I am still kicking myself for that one. Yet since it was a Yankee game there was no reason to stick around after Clemens officially got his record.
Anyway, the drive to Boston took me 7 hours due to traffic. I did not have tickets and had to look high and low to get them. I also had to pay $25.00 to park. Yet there I was. The coolest thing about going to that game was that I took my uncle with me. He was the guy who got me hooked on the Red Sox just as soon as I knew what a baseball was. He lived long enough to see Boston win the World Series. He died a very happy man.
So I guess the crazy part of this story would be driving all the way to Boston without tickets on the off chance that I could find some. I know some people do that for a post season game or even a Yankee Red Sox game, but this was just an interleague game. I believe it was the first time the Cardinals came to Fenway since the earlier World Series. Who would have thought that we would see them again at Fenway in 2004.
Go SawX!
