1st half wrape up
With the 2-1 win this afternoon and the Tribe finishing off their sweep of the Rays everyones favorite boys of summer are now in 1st place by a half game.
The Sox came into the last week before the all star break down 4.5 games to the Rays after a 3-7 road trip. I personally was just hoping that they could just make up 2 or 3 games on the Rays during this latest home stand. Well as it turned out the Rays offense went M.I.A. and they lost 5 straight and the Sox were able to win 5 out of 6 at Fenway and now Lead the AL East yet again, and hopefully for the rest of the year.
The sox offense as produced well at home and has been hit or miss while away from the friendly confinds of Fenway. Manny has been Manny coming up big in the clutch, Drew took charge when Pappi got injured which was huge for the team. Pedroia and Youk have been consistent and have been key to their success. All we need now is Big Pappi to return to the line up and Ellsbury and Lugo to come out of their slumps making the Sox one if not the toughest line up to pitch to 1 through 9.
As far as the pitching staff and the defense goes well there is really is not much to say. The Sox starters have been pitching well more often than not giving the team a quality start. The bullpen has hit some ruff patches here and there most notably lefty Hideki Okajima but all and all the pen as been able to work through the few problems they have faced and are once again one of the best in the AL. Defensively the only real problem is at short stop and Lugo leading the league in errors, which is a problem that I for one hope he will be able to fix in the second half.
Well RSN enjoy the All Star break and good luck to those members of the Sox playing in the game Tuesday let go AL beat the NL for Home Field in October.
