Sox, Suds, and Stogies
August 25, 2008

Lets hear it Red Sox Nation, who's with me??  Anyone else out there like to sit around, watch the Sox with good friends and have a nice stogie and a drink?  My personal favorite is a nice Gurkha Legend (Torpedo) or maybe a Gurkha Master Select #4 with a nice bottle of a dark Sam Adams choice.  Or how about a Hoyo de Monterrey (Red Auerbach's stogie of choice) with a nice glass of Crown Royal, on the rocks?

I am fortunate enough to have been allowed to take over my garage, and turn it into a man-cave, or a smoking lounge, if you will.  I have added a "cooler-dor" (a giant cooler set up to be a humidor for my choice cigars), a fridge, couch, TV, pool table, etc, where my friends and I congregate a couple of times per week to enjoy the list of things in the title of this blog.

That all being said, what do my fellow Sox fans do to enhance their Red Sox viewing pleasure?  Is there a special room in your house, or a special bar you go to?  Do you enjoy the occasional stogie (like I do) with a nice cocktail, and what is your poison of choice?

I already have the space heater ready to go, for those cold October nights, and the humidor and fridge will be filled, and there we will be, good friends, good drinks, good smokes and most of all, GOOD BASEBALL!

I have a "man-cave" as well, although distaff fans can and do visit! It is undergoing renovation - it has two bleacher seats from Fenway on a podium.

It also has a nine-seat leather sectional, courtesy of the Jordan's Furniture promotion.... I'm not a cigar smoker, but if I were, I guess I'd go after a Pyramide Montechristo, one of the finest Cuban short smokes.....

brewed beverages? Sam Adams Summer Ale, Fuller's London Pride, Fuller's Extra Special Bitter, or, a fellow Sox fan introduced me to Peak Organic, which was pretty good. Food?

I'm just learning to cook, but I've found my greatest success with fried veal cutlets, good Barilla pasta with a basil sauce, and a Carmelere wine from Zorfino (local vineyard)

I will eventually have something a little nicer. Maybe a room INSIDE with some sort of ventilating system and some nicer furniture. It is great having a place where the fellow fans can gather. Montecristo...a very fine smoke indeed! I had a few of them in Jamaica and Aruba last year.

The game? I have a seven-channel surround sound system, with a 50 inch plasma. Should the game get boring, fans can retreat to our outdoor hot tub with stereo FM speakers.

A good friend of mine makes nacho's, but puts pulled pork on them...so damn good! I will fire up the grill/fryer/oven come playoff time, that is for damn sure! Gotta have PLAYOFF FOOD!

Oh, I have a grill, too - Weber with cast-iron grates and a side burner--great for frying cutlets, chicken-fried steak, even bacon and eggs without messing the house up..

I have the grill as well...makes it nice, not having to leave the garage for anything all game long.

I have my own room, with Red Sox stuff all over, no fridge yet but I play the host and grab drinks as needed or fill the cooler. Don't smoke but the adult beverages do flow, usually the Crown Royal, Bud Light and if the wife is around Rum!!! Only the host and VIPS get the Sam Adams because in VA it is wicked expensive!!!!

Ok here goes... 16 x 24, 51" inch w/ surround, fridge, 44 Sox pix on the walls, over 125 baseball books, 45 baseball dvd's, over 200 Sox pieces of memorabilia and...the wife never goes in there. No smoking allowed, although my son and I had a cigar and beer to toast the 2007 W.S. win.

I no longer have a man cave my ex got it in the divorce and no doubt her new hubby enjoys it, I do however have a den with a bar in it and a tv on the wall behind it but nothing that elaborate . Sam adams summer ale is my beverage of choice but I don't smoke cigars . I may try one though what do you suggest .

Fenway L..
I suggest anything Gurkha...nice full smoke. If you are new to the stogie world, maybe a 5 Vegas Gold, pretty mellow. I pretty much will smoke anything that is on sale at cigarsinternationsl.com. But it is nice sitting outside, watching the game and enjoying a cigar...relaxing. Then you save the really good ones for the PLAYOFFS!
