'Bout to watch game 5
October 27, 2008
Jeanne just announced that the Rays were about to try and redefine the term "underdog". Redefine it to what? Not coming from behind to beat the heavily favored team? Not being terrible for over a decade before beating the former world champions in the ALCS? I'd like to be candid for a moment and make a casual suggestion to anyone who is going to be talking about sports in my presence for the next - well the rest of my life. Ridiculous sports cliches are the absolute bane of my existence.
I'll give you some examples if you're a bit hazy on what I'm talking about:
"Wherever he goes, championships follow." Really? That must be awkward in his private life...
"It's a mental thing; not a physical thing" Yes, because I hit mental homeruns allllllll the time.
Lest you think I'm in a mood tonight - I'm not. I'm quite excited to see Kazmir on the mound and would love to see the Rays make a comeback. That being said, sometimes I just feel like I'm watching the game with someone who just quickly read up on baseball before going on a date to a Red Sox game and is trying desperately to say something clever about a sport they know nothing about. Man I sound bitter; maybe I should just mute the TV...
