Remembering Matt Young (4/12/92)
May 20, 2008

Last night Jon Lester became the first left handed  pitcher to throw a no hitter since Mel Parnell in 1956.   Unofficially, it was Matt Young  (no hit the Cleveland Indians in 2-1 loss) who was the last lefty to do so in 1992, but because he only pitched 8 innings was never officially credited with the no hitter.

Here’s a list of the Red Sox no hitters from the baseball-almanac.com:

If you include Young, you have to include Devern Hansack in 2005, with the same asterisk - he pitched 5 innings of no-hit ball, got the win, but he isn't in the record book because the game was called due to rain after 5; it was a meaningless game for both teams and there had already been a three-hour rain delay as it was.

~Joe Sox..
You can not consider it a no hitter if they did not finish the game.. Thats the rule! A no hitter is not an easy task by any means, throwing 9 innings of no hit ball is a LOT different than throwing 8 innings of no hit ball.. by that 9th inning everyone is aware, its probably the most intense three outs in a pitchers career
