"Keep The Faith"
September 2, 2008

This phrase "Keep The Faith" is used often on Sawxheads. I am wondering what its meaning, to each of us, is? Personally to me, it means that in the end, the Red Sox will do their best and be rewarded with a playoff birth. It doesn't have anything to do with religion for me.

To me it means that you don't stop believing no matter what. When the chips are down they come through and win....or not -- But you never stop believing they will. The BOSTON RED SOX are THE GREATEST come from BEHIND team EVAH!!!

It probably means different things to different people. Baseball wise for me it means that even when we're going through rough stretches (ever season has them) we still believe that things will work out in the end.

Well put 1st Place...it's also when we, as Red Sox fans, came back every year to support the team. After 1967,1975,1978,1986 & 2003...we kept the Faith that we would one day see a World Championship.

It means having an underlying thought that the Sox will prevail and turn things around, no matter how bad it might get. It does NOT mean being naive, however. If the Sox don't stand a chance, I will let that be known, but deep down, I will hold out all hope that they will turn it around (or keep playing at the highest level).

I started hearing the word "faith" a lot with the Sox back in 2004 - "Keep the Faith." I became attached the phrase ever since, and I use it as a signature at the end of all of my blogs. I agree, Knarfy, it doesn't mean anything religious to me, at least not in this sense. It means support the Sox, no matter what! Even when things look bad, you gotta keep the faith. ...View More

Keeping the Faith was a big test for a lot of Sox fans back in 03 when we were down 0-2 to the A's and then we were tested even more a year later down 0-3 to the Yanks. Keeping the Faith is pretty much sticking with your team and staying optimistic and confident no matter what the given situation is.

sticking around until the last out is recorded, and to take it a little further knarfy, going to sox games even after we are eliminated from the postseason, knowing you will see a great game (and maybe a record or two broken...think ortiz)

Welllll...I like all of these comments, really pithy and on point. I think the truth is that, even when you're down 3 games to love to the Evil Empire, the easy thing to do is cave in and, after all, go with the statistics. "Keep The Faith" means, no matter what, any freakin' thing can happen, probably because it's the combined attitude that often propels us to greatness. And I have to add, that is most probably why the Rays will not give way to first place, but may very well relent to the Sawx onslaught when they meet in the ALCS. ...View More

keeping the faith means believing in something that it will happen inspite of all the difficulties and setbacks, and sticking with them even for better or for worse.
