Switch Hitters? Tek and Lowrie???
October 6, 2008

If anyone can offer a logical explanation for this question, I'd really appreciate it.

Why do these guys continue to bat from the left side even though their numbers for batting on the right are so much better. I understand what they are TRYING to do, but bith Tek and Mr. Jed have been God awful batting lefty. What's the harm in sending these guys up to bat from the right against Lackey tonight? It can't hurt.

i agree. in teks case i think he is left eye dominant. either that or he just cant see well anymore. either case he should just hang up the left hand bat.(hheheh)

They should definitely give up the left side, especially Tek. To be an effective switch hitter, don't you have to be able to hit for a decent average on both sides?

I could be wrong here but I think it has to do with seeing the ball and release point and what not. That's why switch hitters bat righty against lefty pitchers and visa versa. And why left-handed batters have problems with left-handed pitchers. And why side arm guys like Mike Meyers and Chad Bradford are basically specialist pitchers. (Although I think Bradford has a wider role with the Rays)

To add I think that Tek and Lowrie have higher batting averages as righties because most pitchers are right-handed and so most of their at bats are left handed.

Interesting point, I think you would change that during the off-season not in the middle of the playoffs. You dance with who brought ya and they have been switch hitting all year, I'm riding the rest of the year!!!

Just Jed..
(online now)*
If you look up what both Tek and Jed are hitting from the left versus batting right you'll see a difference of approx. +.100 avg points from the right side. Why not try putting the left handed bat away? Just for the sake of seeing if it helps. What can it hurt?

I think Tek did that against Mussina either last year or the year before but I don't remember how well he did.

I forget this site has so many ignorant, no brain, asshats. This is referencing all you coward downvoters who haven't the guts, balls, etc. to own up to it and comment why my blog deserves a downvote. You are true pussies in every sense of the word. Thank you for all comments left, good, bad, and indifferent.

As a pitcher it is muh harder to pitch to a lefty . You also have to look at thier obp and that could be the answer but not knowing that i have no idea

I think Lowrie's wrist injury could've had an effect, but I think it would be hard for a switch hitter after years of batting one way to change.
