Video: "T"-errific Fans of Fenway
|
|
SoxisSickies wrote this 5 months ago on |
I thought this was pretty cool, the fans coming off the T on Kenmore Square on their way to Fenway Park for opening day. Little did I know as I was shooting this video, would a man in the background play "Take me out to the ballgame" on the clarinet. It was the perfect setting, for a perfect day. I hope you enjoy it the way that I did.

Let me take you back to last year, when Papelbon said before a late-April game in Yankee Stadium: “I’m here to get my fair share of money. My main priority is to stay healthy and be able to make money, not to go out and try and hurry up and win a championship this year. It’s not like I’m hurrying up and going back to the closers role because we have a good team this year and...

updates courtesy of boston.com
UPDATE 1: It took Josh Beckett 13 pitches to get through the first three batters of the game, ending the inning with two strikeouts (one looking, one swinging) and a groundout to shortstop. The three batters made contact on exactly four pitches, three fouls and that grounder to short.
And, yes, we're...

After posting the article written by Mark Newman of mlb.com, it made me begin to think of my favorite baseball related quotes of all time. There are the obvious ones, Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) in Bull Durham, Lou Gehrig's retirement speech, and pretty much anything by Manny Ramirez.
Some of my personal favorites however are:
" You've got to remember, I'm 73 friggin year's old "...

Tavarez in the rotation is a bad idea
|
|
SoxisSickies wrote this 7 months ago on |
Putting Julian Tavarez in the 5th spot in the starting rotation makes me nervous. Almost terrified. He is at best, decent, against a lineup one time around. What kind of purpose is he going to serve our team facing a lineup 2-3 times a game as a starter? I would much rather see one of the young kid's in that role. Leave Tavarez in the long relief role, as that truly is his only consistent area of contribution. Give me a rotation of Becks, Dice,...

During this offseason, there is alot of touring of the World Series Trophy, and autograph sessions.
This is a time for the fans to really connect on a more personal level with the players. They see Pedroia making plays, Ellsbury's blazing speed, Lester's courageous comback. Yet, they see it all on television or in the papers the next morning.
For fans in small towns like Westbrook, Maine, it was a great chance for them to feel as if they are truly part of...

Over the last few weeks we have heard constantly about Johan Santana and the possibility of him coming to Boston. Yes, adding a left-handed ace to the staff would mean trouble for the rest of the league. However, I have to admit, and I would have to say some will agree with me here, but it's getting old. I'm sick of reading the same reports about " Red Sox are frontrunners, Mets are in the lead, Yankees retract their offer then put it back on table". It's...

The history of the Citgo Sign

SoxisSickies wrote this 9 months ago on |
The two most famous ballparks in America are Boston's Fenway Park and Chicago's Wrigley Field. Inside their confines, Fenway has the Green Monster, while Wrigley counters with ivy covered walls.
Outside of the Chicago ballpark, in the Wrigleyville neighborhood, fans watch the game from the rooftops of the apartments located behind left and right field. Outside of Fenway Park, in Kenmore Square, Boston is home to the CITGO sign.
While many are familiar with most of the details...

A man in Topeka , Kansas decided to write a book about Churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there.
Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read 'Calls: $10,000 a minute.'
Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that...

Moving Ellsbury for Santana a must

SoxisSickies wrote this 10 months ago on |
I know everyone isn't going to like this blog one bit. However, I have been thinking long and hard since the start of this whole Johan Santana talk has begun.
Jacoby Ellsbury is a fine young player, and could be a mainstay in centerfield at Fenway for years to come. He posseses 4 of the 5 tools needed (i doubt he'll ever be able to hit for power), has the good looks and the charisma that would be a huge hit with the Fenway faitful (especially the female...

Beckett 2nd in Cy Young voting
|
|
SoxisSickies wrote this 10 months ago on |
Well folks, the votes are tallied and the announcement made that C.C. Sabathia has claimed the 2007 American League Cy Young Award. Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett came in 2nd place.
I know everyone is going to be in an uproar regarding this decision, however, the sole reason he was not declared the winner is because of the timing of the voting. The votes were tallied at the end of the regular season. Playoff outcomes had no impact what so ever in the voting....

If you talked to the majority of Red Sox fans a few years back, they would have done anything to get their hands on the super talented Alex Rodriquez. He had or has it all, the skill, the size, the economic value.
However, in the present day of 2007 he is seen as A-Fraud. Opting out of his contract with the Yankees proves once and for all that this man is either: a) the greediest man in the history of sports or b) or taken over by Scott Boras like Annikan...

The Red Sox will be SNUBBED of awards
|
|
SoxisSickies wrote this 1 year ago on |
I woke up this morning and for some odd reason the first thing I could think of was that the the regular season awards will go out to everyone that isn't a Red Sox player. I just feel it in my heart that they will be snubbed from each one that we have a player in contention for.
Everything I have been reading and hearing is listing C.C. Sabathia as the AL Cy Young winner, Delmon Young as the ROY, and not a single Red Sox player winning a Gold Glove Award.
I could sit...

When looking at a pitcher's success there are many factors that come into play. Pure stuff, command, poise come to mind. However, the most important factor in a pitcher making a name for himself is how he performs when the lights are on. When the stage is the largest and everyone is watching, this is when a pitcher truly builds his reputation.
For Daisuke Matsuzaka this has been his bread and butter. More then his mid 90's fastball and the myth of his...

On Sept. 22, the Red Sox secured a spot in the postseason for the 18th time in franchise history. Only the Yankees (45) and A's (23), among American League teams, have appeared more times in the playoffs.
Not until Sept. 28, however, did the Red Sox break out the champagne, after clinching their first AL East title since 1995. Boston has finished the regular season in first place 14 times, eight before the dawn of the divisional era (1903, '04, '12, '15, '16,...

It's been a month or so since Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury have laced up the cleats and walked out on to the field at Fenway Park. We have been entertained by Ellsbury's combination of blazing speed and batting wizardry, while in awe of the knee-buckling curve ball and no-hit capability of Buchholz.
Yet, I think it's important to look at the numbers these two kids put up in the minor league circuit this past season. We all know what they're capable of on the...

A sad day for a 10 year old

It might not of been the major topic of discussion from the Red Sox/Yankees series this past weekend, but boy o boy was it a big deal. Yankee rookie outfielder Shelley Duncan was asked by 10 year old Griffin Whitman for an autograph. The rookie OF eagerly obliged to put his John Hancock on the notepad held by the kid. However, above his signature were the words 'Red Sox Suck'. The kid excitedly ran back to his father to show off his new autograph. ...

WOW, I happened to look up the pitching matchups for the upcoming series between the Sox and Yanks and that is the only word I could come up with.
Friday night it's Andy Pettite vs Daisuke Matsuzaka. Pettite has been phenomenal the 2nd half of the season as he's really rounding into his usual late/post season form that us Sox fans have come to hate. Meanwhile, Dice-K has needed an L screen in front of the mound his past few starts. Getting ripped around the park would be an...

Thoughts on last night's game

|
SoxisSickies wrote this 1 year ago on |
first and foremost, you can see the difference in our lineup sans Manny Ramirez. They just don't have the same fear factor that they pose when he is in the lineup. Not only do you lose his production, but you also lose alot of pitches to Ortiz. Not many pitchers are going to give Ortiz anything to hit at all without Manny hitting behind him. So, because of of that we need a great outing from Schilling today. It's about time that he goes back to the Schilling we can count on, and if his...

Crisp vs Damon

after the comments made my Damon about how the Sox can't replace him it made me wonder their stats this year.
avg h rbi sb hr 3b obp bb
Damon - .266 112 49 20 9 2 .357 60
Crisp - .270 121 48 21 5 7 .333 43
Those stats look pretty even to me. However, a ballplayer is judged defensively too. And Crisp has a legit shot at being a gold glove winner this year, while damon is playing leftfield and has even played first base this year.

Two pitchers, two teams, one state, one pitch. Josh Beckett grew up in a rural town in the dry heat of Texas idolizing Roger Clemens. Watching the Rocket blow fastballs by his counterparts was something he found fun and that was what he wanted to do.
For the first time in his young but illustrious career, Beckett will get the chance to toe the same rubber in the same game as his boyhood idol Clemens. This is the marquee matchup of this week's series with the Yanks. There isn't...
