There was a time when all baseball players hustled...they needed the job. It's a sad commentary on baseball when the average fan pays more to go to a Major League game than Ty Cobb earned to PLAY in one. Players were so broke in the 1919 season that they could earn 3 times as much money by throwing the World Series than an annual salary. Yaz and I go way back. He definitely doesn't remember the day I signed on as his biggest fan, and if he could, he wouldn't give a sh*&t. That's just how Yaz reacts to adoration and he's pretty much always been like that.

Kevin Youkilis is fast becoming a leader on this year's Sox team and he's doing it the old fashioned way. Hustle, desire and a sweat. I was one of the people on WEEI last season who jumped all over the acquisition of JD Drew and I have to backtrack and apologize for the knee-jerk (with the emphasis on jerk) reaction to his first year in a Red Sox uniform.
