I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW DURING 6/25 SHUT OUT!!
June 26, 2008
As I was sitting in Photography class earlier today, My professor assigned us a project on Photo Journalism.
I thought it would be fun to go to "Game On!" to get some shots of the crowds walking into Fenway. I proposed this to a few classmates. Mostly everyone made up some sort of excuse why they couldn't go. So me and a friend, packed up our bags, tripods and cameras and took the train down to Red Sox heaven. We set up all of our photography equipment and stated shooting photos of the fans rushing into the park.
After about 20 minutes when "Game On!" got boring, we made our way down Yawkey Way to shoot a few more photos down their.
At that point a Fenway Security officer had approached us. He asked us politely what we was doing. We showed him our college ID and explained to him the speculations of our assignment. He looked at us in a Security guard manor and said " Please pack up your items." So I looked at my friends with a petrified look, while following the guards instructions. We had no idea what we were in for.
After all of our belongings were packed up, we followed the guard. He started walking towards Gate A. So like he insisted we followed. He looked at us and said "I understand what it is like to be a college student, and doing a project like this must be tough" Then he proceeded to take our belongings from us and ticket our bags with pink red sox bracelets. HE LET US INTO FENWAY TO WATCH THE GAME FOR FREE!!
After my friend and I entered the park, we didn't know what to do first. We walked up and down the concession stands until we neared home plate. As we proceeded into the park, it was the the top of the second inning. We continued to walk around until we found a place to store our bags. We ended up finding a very nice concession stand employee who watched out belongings for us, we continued to shoot some photos. As we walked through the crowd, and all of fans we were asked us questions about our reasons of being in Fenway with these expensive cameras.
Some fans even gave up their view/seats for a few seconds so we could take some close photos. We continued to move around the park due to the "standing room only" signs everywhere. We finally migrated down to the front row right next to home plate.
Sitting down there was where we met two season ticket holders. The nice gentlemen offered up their (extra) seat for us to capture the game. We got some great shots of Youkillis, Pedroia, Crisp, Cash, Moss, Lowell, and of course Ellsbury!
This experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity for both my college and myself. We took about 800 pictures between the both of us.
Thank You, to Corey Davis for assigning us this project, to the security officer who let us in for FREE, and to the awesome two season ticket holders that hold tickets for the best three seat in Fenway!!
