My turn to chime in (Albeit late of course)
August 1, 2008
I posted these bulletins on myspace, and it chronicles my thoughts PMT and PTMT (Pre Manny Trade and Post Manny Trade respectively).
First...PMT bulletin
I pride myself on being a realist...
And realistically, this Sox team is NOWHERE near the team it was last year.
All this drama that is being thrown around by the fans and media, is a detriment and if you think it doesn't affect the clubhouse, then you're pretty much a moron.
As for me, I'd hate to see Manny go...but if he wants out as bad as he's saying, then I'm not sure we're going to get the full fledged Manny assault we're used to seeing down the stretch.
Think back...2006 down the stretch. Yeah...
I honestly believe we're at best a third place team without him, but I'm not sure we're anything but a third place team with him anyway this year (Think...karma and clubhouse dissent).
Time to start thinking about the long term construction of this team...let the kids play Tito.
I know Theo's already balancing the short term sightedness of this years club, to the long term health of it.
As for me, it's think long term time and time for me to pour over Diehard back issues and Red Sox Prospectus to see who we've got coming up in the system (For the umpteenth time).
Second in a series of posts (This one...PTMT)
The realist strikes again
Yesterday I knew it was possible...even probable that Manny Ramirez would not be in a Red Sox uniform come 24 hours from today, but now that it's happened...
I'm at a loss.
Relevance. That's what Manny brought us in the playoffs, like not many could.
Can you remember the playoff runs by the Red Sox in 1990 and 1995? I can...
And our offense was piss poor and our so called clutch players, forgot to show up (I loved Mo Vaughn but damn 1995 in October was painful to watch).
Bring in Manny. He of the World Series MVP, and I honestly can NEVER EVER Forget game two of the ALDS last year, when I sent my wife from a sound sleep, into a very close and personal view of the ceiling of our house.
You see...Deb and I were just married earlier last year, and this was one of many moments I knew I'd always associate with her and baseball.
One of many that we've ALL had with Manny Ramirez.
This divorce is painful...
This isn't 2004 when we sent Nomar to Chicago for Dougie and ultimately Cabrera.
This is trading Lou Gehrig at a time when he and Ruth could have been devastating the league together for at least one more run at October glory (That of course never happened in NY because the Yankees knew were their bread was buttered).
In this case, we got Jason Bay in return, and lost Brandon Moss too (nevermind Hansen too in the pitching realm).
How did this better our club exactly?
It's simple. It didn't.
And my prediction is...
It will go down as one of the worst trades in Red Sox history.
I'd much rather have had a third place club the rest of this season, and still had Manny for a few more years.
Now I think third place runs will be a common occurance for a while.
See you next year Manny...
When you're in pinstripes (at which point I will burn your jersey, because I hate the Yankees that much).
Third in a series of posts (PTMT)...This is where my bitterness manifests itself even more.
Here's a new marketing scheme for Boston fans
Anyone remember the 70's and early 1980s? I don't but I know a lot of Red Sox fans do.
Who's Stan Papi stickers floating around, after he was traded for Bill Spaceman Lee.
Here's my new marketing scheme and if things pan out as I see them going...
Who's Jason Bay stickers will be hot selling items.
You heard it here.
Fourth and final bulletin...Here's where I really lost my mind.
Boston...the curse of pissed off ownership
Now I'm not saying we're going to go in an 86 year drought, but think about this for one minute.
Harry Frazee was tired of the antics of George Herman Ruth, his pitcher and sometimes first baseman so he up and traded him.
We remember how that ended up.
Flash forward a few years (Okay...a few GENERATIONS). A guy who absolutely protects the lineup, acts like a kid from time to time (And honestly...Who didn't enjoy some of his antics. It's baseball. It's supposed to be fun too!!! Babe Ruth KNEW THAT which is why he saved baseball after the Black Sox Scandal!!!).
So what does he get for being an MVP in the World Series and ending an 86 year drought while also helping to lead the team to 2 WS in 4 years? In a year when his name was NEVER ONCE MENTIONED UNDER THE GUISE OF STEROIDS (a scandal that is close to being Black Sox level, whether you want to believe it or now).
Traded...
For Jason Bay. He of the .216 BA w/RISP. wow...
Real good ownership group. Will someone please explain to me how this freakin makes sense, because right now...I have NO idea how it does.
I'm currently out of my mind...please leave a message
-9/11...Never forgotten
