clemens on 60 minutes
January 6, 2008

I didn't want to watch but at the same time I couldn't turn away Roger Clemens' 60 minutes interview.  I don't know what I was expecting but I definitely went away disappointed.  I wanted to scream because I was so annoyed at his words and demeanor during the interview - and I was saddened to think that in years past I used to look forward to the days we'd see him on the mound in a sox uniform.

In most circumstances I can understand that people deserve to be thought of as "innocent until proven guilty" however, the Mitchell Report was a researched document not some random rumor.  Oh yeah, way to throw your bed buddy Pettite under the bus Roger...how does that make you feel?  I would love to have proof come out that Clemens and all of these other big name supposed steroid users were clean but since thats not going to happen, I'd have a lot more respect for him if he could say "I'm sorry and I made a mistake"...but maybe I live in a fantasy world that anyone would say something like that.

Ugh...can't spring training start so we can discuss current baseball stuff instead of all of these legal matters?

Baseball players are just like regular people, some will fess up when they screw up, others will go to great lengths to either deny they screwed up or to justify themselves. (NOTE: I'm not sure if Roger is innocent or guilty.)

I agree...I don't know if he's innocent or guilty but the delays in speaking and all of the other stuff make it hard to believe he's innocent...but only time will tell.

He did blink a lot during the tough questions and wouldn't look Mike Wallace in the eye when he answered them but ya don't know if that's really how it happened or if that's how the piece was edited.

true...they do a lot of editing on these things...and Mike Wallace didn't seem to press him like they did with that crazy murderer from the previous segment on the show. I think the inability to come up with an original thought as an excuse (ie the whole "b12/lidocaine" fiasco or like Bonds' "flaxseed oil) doesn't help the argument. Maybe that is was all he took, or maybe he was lied too...but as a professional athlete part of your job is to be aware of your body and what is being put in it and how that stuff could affect your livelihood. ...View More

Eh, I don't know. You'd like to believe one would know but ya never know. I know I made the mistake of believing Raphael Palmeiro during the last Congressional hearing so I'm a bit cynical now.

I don't understand why his former trainer would tell the truth about Pettite but lie about Clemens,it doesn't make sense.

Seriously...that was ridiculous...maybe if Pettite and Clemens had stayed on the same page and Pettite hadn't "apologized" or at least admitted to using once or twice, Clemens comments about the trainer would have had a chance at seeming a little bit more believable.

i still dont think he did it.being questioned on 60 minutes in front of how many millions of people who have already decided he did get shot in the butt has got to be a lot more nerve wracking than talking about your last start in front of 50 reasonibly friendly sports reporters,or so i would think since ive done neither.

I saw the 60 min special, maybe Im just gullible but I totally believed him. (or maybe I just want to believe him)

RED SOX ..
I wanted to believe him, but I know a thing or two about people when they're lying...he was saying no, but his eye contact and body language screamed guilty

FAN CAMP..
He had a lot of good answers and I thought the interview went well, and was pretty convincing, until Mike Wallace asked about taking a lie detector test, then Clemens looked a little shook up. I've got to agree with him though, I wouldn't trust a lie detector test.
