Varitek NOT mentioned in the report - Gagne mentioned
December 13, 2007

When the Boston Red Sox were considering acquiring Gagné, a Red Sox official

made specific inquiries about Gagné’s possible use of steroids. In a November 1, 2006 email to

a Red Sox scout, general manager Theo Epstein asked, “Have you done any digging on Gagne?

I know the Dodgers think he was a steroid guy. Maybe so. What do you hear on his

medical?”

Some digging on Gagne and steroids IS the issue. Has had a

checkered medical past throughout career including minor leagues.

Lacks the poise and commitment to stay healthy, maintain body

and re invent self. What made him a tenacious closer was the max

effort plus stuff . . . Mentality without the plus weapons and

without steroid help probably creates a large risk in bounce back

durability and ability to throw average while allowing the changeup

to play as it once did . . . Personally, durability (or lack of) will

follow Gagne . . .

425 The scout, Mark Delpiano, responded,426

In order to provide Gagné with information about these allegations and to give

him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.

MIKEYMOM..
if this proves anything it proves steriods havent had a huge impact on sports.. the teams with multiple players named IE Rangers Orioles are sh1t teams who havent done anything in DECADES
12/13/2007 3:23 PM
Sawxfani..
not to mention it also proves that of the players mentioned. half didnt amount to sh*&t either. so to target bonds and say look what it did for him is insane..

Not a coincidence that Clemens performance went up after the Sox cut him. I still think Duquette was a jackass, but maybe the Sox were right. Would Clemens be a 300 plus game winner without the roids? Probably not.

The report is actually interesting reading, although WHO THE HELL IS PAXTON CRAWFORD?? I mean, he was REALLY a star, thanks to the steroids, huh??? (I know who he is--I'm just being sarcastic on this snowy day...) The report is incomplete and flawed, true, but to me it demonstrates the kind of pressure these guys are under to perform, that they would put this crap into their bodies, risking all kinds of physical problems for short-term performance. It could easily explain, for example, why Kevin Brown's bones became brittle--a side effect of long-time steroid use. It could also account for the fact that so many pitchers require Tommy John surgery or rotator cuff surgery or have bursitis (although sometimes doctors actually PRESCRIBE steroids for inflammation like bursitis) because long-time steroid use breaks down bones. Just a thought. And TGRSF--Duquette WAS/IS a jackass. No doubt!!! ...View More

steroids do improve reaction time, which would help with batting

take two players put em side by side...give then a steroid treatment for a yr...lets say one of those players has above avg talent. the other is medicore. does the stroid treatment help either one of them any more than the other? my guess is no....you have to have the basic tools to play this game. eye hand coordination( your brain tells you when to swing not a syringe)etc..reaction time is not improved by steroids. again that is your brain telling you when to do something. there should be studies done to show how this really affects the outcome of a steroid session using a control group of equal and lesser talented players. onlty then will this "myth" be put to rest. otherwise it is a pointless debate on whether or not using steroids actually helps or not. ...View More

steroid proof...they make you stronger and can aid in recouperating from a workout quicker!! so maybe bonds doesnt hit a 465ft homerun..he o nly hits it 430 ft instead...he still has to hit the ball just right at the right angle to make it leave the park. he like many of the players named had above avg ablility. the rest of the players never amounted to a hill of beans..which shows that steroid use does not help you become a better player. it just will screw your health up down the road. cause you to spend inordinate amounts of money. and end up selling peanuts at a AA game. ...View More

Extremely good points.Bonds is like the poster child all of the sudden when they turned a blind eye for how many years? I took a break from baseball from roughly 1985-93. When I came back to the game (WS '93)everybody is knocking the snot out of the ball~and they all looked like Charles Atlas Graduates. How many owners and managers turned their heads? If I knew Mark McGwire was on 'roids, why didn't LaRussa and Selig?(They are such hypocrites!!!!!When it was "good" for the game, it was o.k.). ...View More

And who said the report was interesting? A bunch of reports on people that couldn't quite get enough evidence to be indited, half assed research, as well as no subpoenas for actual evidence on people who were caught. A few pee tests too late to discover anything real....come on! If you were gonna go through and write a 409 poage report, the least you could have done was come up with HARD evidence to back up everything, including the "performance enhancing drugs" that don't enhance performance... ...View More

I said it was interesting. I found it to be interesting reading, if only for the chronology and some of the info on the behind-the-scenes people. But hey, what do you expect from me? I have been unemployed since the end of July, and without baseball to watch, my brain is turning to mush!!!

lol...trust me, I understand...I suppose the 'stories' were interesting enough, but the effects of steroids on the body, and all that kinda stuff was a monstrosity of conflicting information....look at Gagne....riiiiight.

What I really wish they had done was put a list of the names on the first page, and then all the other bull on the rest of the report...but, they didn't.

I wish they had listed the names on the first page and gotten it over with, then put the rest of the stuff behind that, but then, it wouldn't have been like a congressional inquiry, right? LOL
