I enjoyed a great success in my mind while employed with the Yankees, we went to the playoffs every year for the twelve years I was there and we won four World Series. I have the gift of taking great players with huge incomes and producing mediocre results. For example in 2004 we were leading the Boston Red Sox 3 games to none. We were well on our way to the World Series, no team in the history of Major League Baseball had ever come back from being down three games to none. Well I managed us right out of the playoffs and right into the baseball history books. Then in 2006 and 2007 I was staffed with some of the greatest baseball players ever to take the field, we made the ALDS two years in a row!!!! I feel it was all my bosses fault why we weren't successful. I mean if they had only spent another $100 million more dollars I feel very confident we could have gone the distance the past two years. How is a manager supposed to get the job done with guys like: AROD, Jeter , Cano, Giambi, Matsui, Cabrera, Abreu, Damon, Posada, Clemens, Mussina, Pettitte, and Rivera, I mean between all of them they have less than 30 All-Star appearences. I would like to go to an organiziation that is committed to winning, an owner that is going to spend the money, a general manager that will make the trades and deplete our farm system just so we can have an edge to win the World Series that year. I want to work for a club that will bring in players that are in the twilight of their career, over pay them, and make me play them ahead of younger, cheaper, more talented players. I want to go to a city where the fans are so educated that they will boo and spit on you one night, and give you a standing ovation the next. I want to work for an owner that will publicly embarass me and put my job on the line at least twice a year. I guess my hopes are too high, and will probably never find an organization or city like I described. In closing if Terry Francona needs a bull pen coach, I would be honored to work for a real genious and winner. |
