Trivia: Red Sox and Presidential Names
April 10, 2008

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Leon, Mexico with time to kill. So I did a little digging through Sox history in honor (and I use that term very loosely here) of the 2008 presidential election.

I matched the last names of Sox owners, managers, and coaches with the 37 last names of our presidents (42 presidents, with two sharing the last names of Adams, Harrison, Johnson, Roosevelt, and Bush). (No GM's shared names with presidents).

Not surprisingly, the Johnson tandem of Andrew and Lyndon had ten Sox matches. Woodrow Wilson finished a close second with nine. It was a far drop to third with Andrew Jackson and Richard Nixon getting 4 each.

None of the three remaining major candidates in this year would add any names to the list as there were no McCains or Obamas with the Sox and Billary would have to share her one match with Bill.

Here's the list:

  1. George Washington (0)

Yeah, you really must be bored. I think when you come to Boston, you need to take a trip to Quincy and go see the Adams historical site!
