A big ol' slice of humble key lime pie!
October 30, 2008

We were in St Pete last month for our annual sabbatical, the late season Sox /Rays series. As you all know, the Rays were kickin'.

For those still damp, freshly baptized Rays fans strutting down the ramps of the Trop last month laughing and chanting, "Boston Sux!, Boston Sux!..." We've been coming here for years, where were you "Devoted" then? We thought (and some Bostonians stated) to the bandwagon,  'Don't get too cocky kids.'

Somehow we knew this could turn and bite them in their virgin butts. They didn't realize that kicking a long-time Sox fan is like beating a dead horse. We've chowed down far too many slices of our trademark cream pie to be phased by their boasting and Tampa just sat down at their table!

You've got so much to learn little sister, this is just the beginning so get comfortable. You see, like your dessert, the playoffs can be sweet and sour. For decades at a time.

The question I have for the Rays "loyalists". Will we see you next September when we return for the Sept '09 three-game series?

Oh,  one last thing Pinellas county. Eat it all up!

It will be interesting to see if the Trop is full next season. That'll be a true test for them.

Believe ..
No way the Trop will be full next season...and one losing streak and they will be right back to selling only 18,000 tickets to each game.

I live in a bubble when it comes to dealing with Rays fans and what not so I look at this from a pure baseball perspective. Joe Maddon and those 25 guys on the Rays roster got to the World Series by playing the game right. I think that's something to admire. (And I wasn't around in 67 but I'd lay odds that things in Tampa druing the Summer of 08 were a lot like things were in Boston back in the Summer of 67. ...View More

Great season for Tampa, they played great ball all year. I respect how they played the game. I hope their young talent stays humble and hungry. This could be the beginning of a great rivalry!!!! Go Red Sox!!!! Rice in 09!!!!

Rivalry is a good thing. Let's face it only the O's will not be competitive next season in our east. Yankees will be spenders and losers, Blue jays may keep AJ and pick up a hitter and be losers and we will be winners no matter what we do. agree???? go sox

Yes, from a pure baseball perspective, they did a great job. I just hate 'em. Like someone said, let's see the fans next year. This is the beginning of paying your dues. Supporting in the highes and lows.

33TEK.....
It was great reading this blog as we have been going south for years now to see the Sox's play at the Trop and we have made some great friends while there who are Ray's fan. But this year was alot different and it wasn't as enjoyable as the Bandwagon Fans with those foolish cowbells ruined the games. In all the years that we have been attending games in the Trop. I have never seen it full and I am sure as the season starts next year we will return to the choice seats and the Red Sox's Nation domantion in the stands once again. The few new Ray's Fans that do stick around will learn as time goes. ...View More
