Share A Movie/TV show that hypes or slams the Boston Red Sox.
December 1, 2008

I have seen so many movies and television episodes that mention the Boston Red Sox, usually (in the past) to connect defeatism with whatever topic of conversation was taking shape. I am sure you have seen your share of shows that mention the BoSox and so I thought, just maybe, our collective genius could provide a list of those shows, right here, right now. So if you are up to it, let's see what you've got to share.

Here is my contribution:

LOST: In a scene where the doctor (main character is locked in a clear cell, the bad guy is trying to convince the doc that while he has been on the island, the bad guys have been in full communication with the outside world. In trying to prove that statement the bad guy says, 'and even the Boston Red Sox won the World Series". The doc responds, 'you almost had me believing you could communicate with the outside world but, the Red Sox winning the World Series is a bit hard to swallow.'.

Now I am going on memory here so this is only a paraphrase but, you get the idea. Enjoy and please share what you know. Any mention of the Red Sox in movies or television is the greatest form of flattery. It reminds us of just how grand a stage our team is on.

GO NATION! GO SOX!

DRAFTAHOLIC!!!

Now this is something I can get into. The first one that comes to mind for me is Field Of Dreams. When the Kevin Costner character had to go and find the forgotten Beat Generation writer, he had to go find him in Boston and they went to a game at Fenway.

The Red Sox have been featured more in movies. One semi-classic = Fear Strikes Out, with Anthony Perkins and Karl Malden. Of course, we have Fever Pitch, Still We Believe, and some others. TV shows? Hard to say, because they can't overdo the Red Sox bit --

Awesome so far folks! Appreciate any links you can find as well. Section. I loved the movie Fever Pitch! The fact that they had to change the ending to the movie because Boston won the World Series is a classic story we can tell our kids. I went out and purchased both versions of Fever Pitch and when I first saw the movie I was yelling at the screen..."DONT SELL YOUR TICKETS"! LOL

How about even in commercials? I've noticed FINALLY on the design-your-own credit card (don't remember which one at the moment), the refrences to the Red Sox are just as many as the Yankees (I counted!). This still amazes me because I am used to those commercials and the like, not even giving us the mention. Then, look in catalogs where they sell sports stuff and as they show various different teams, the Yankees are always mentioned but rarely are the Red Sox. When they ARE mentioned, the Yankees have always taken center stage. I would say it is about equal now, with a slight favor to the Yankees still but things..they are A=CHANGING! ...View More

forgot to vote again!.. so figured I would mention that in stores (not official MLB stores) the Red Sox hats are either not even there or on the bottom shelf. Now, I notice they ARE there and they are moving up! :)

Speaking of Red Sox hats-I went to a Big 5 sporting goods store last week and they had a whole pile of Red Sox ski caps-went back on Saturday for another one and they only had 3 left! Red Sox merchandise is flying off the shelves in AZ!

I found this transcript from Good Will Hunting! Will So, when did you know, like, that she was the one for you? Sean October 21st, 1975. Will Jesus C---t. You know the &$^%n' date? Sean Oh yeah. Cus' it was game six of the World Series. Biggest game in Red Sox history. Will Yeah, sure. Sean My friends and I had, you know, slept out on the sidewalk all night to get tickets. Will You got tickets? Sean Yep. Day of the game. I was sittin' in a bar, waitin' for the game to start, and in walks this girl. Oh it was an amazing game, though. You know, bottom of the 8th Carbo ties it up at a 6-6. It went to 12. Bottom of the 12th, in stepped Carlton Fisk. Old Pudge. Steps up to the plate, you know, and he's got that weird stance. Will Yeah, yeah. Sean And BAM! He clocks it. High fly ball down the left field line! Thirty-five thousand people, on their feet, yellin' at the ball, but that's not because of Fisk. He's wavin' at the ball like a madman. Will Yeah, I've seen... Sean He's going, "Get over! Get over! Get OVER!" And then it HITS the foul pole. OH, he goes apes*%&t, and 35,000 fans, you know, they charge the field, you know? Will Yeah, and he's f$&%$in' bowlin' police out of the way! Sean Goin' "God! Get out of the way! Get 'em away!" Banging people.. Will I can't f$&%^$in' believe you had tickets to that f$*&%&$in' game! Sean Yeah! Will Did you rush the field? Sean No..I didn't rush the f$*&%in' field, I wasn't there. Will What? Sean No..I was in a bar havin' a drink with my future wife. Will You missed Pudge Fisk's homerun? Sean Oh yeah. Will To have a f$*%&$in' drink with some lady you never met? Food Network shows often mention our beloved Red Sox. On Ace of Cakes - Geoff is making a replica of Fenway Park in cake and he puts the Red Sox down. Fortunately other members of the bakery are big Red Sox fans. Mary Alice tells Geoff he needs to be careful of what he says. Rachel Ray often mentions the Red Sox on her show. She is a big fan. So although the Red Sox are still mentioned in a negative light, it is however starting to change. Go Red Sox! ...View More
