Family
September 9, 2008
Over the last year I have had a lot time to reflect on family. First, my dad got sick and went to the hospital for surgery. Then on 22 April 2008 my son, Jonathan David, passed away. Also, on 3 September 2008 I got promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (that is E7 in the Marine Corps to those of you in other services). First two are obviously about family but I will explain the last one later.
I realized that the most important relationships in our lives, the one with our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers are so important that God makes the decision for us. They may not be the best relationships but those realtionships have the most influence on who we are going to be. But God in his infinite wisdom and love gave us the choice to find more family in other places.
I was fortunate to find brothers and sisters in the Marine Corps that I love and will keep in contact with for the rest of my life. I was able to find my wife and even though that is not working out, I would not change any of it.
Another part of my family is my Red Sox family. All the great friends that I have met through this site and at games has been amazing. Bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that will remain for years to come.
That it why I believe so strongly in family and the idea of the Red Sox Mafia. The most important thing you can have in life is your family, and it does not have to be blood relatives. I'd like to thank all of you for being in my family and for allowing me in yours.
