Poll: Boos for Rivera???
July 25, 2008
Baseball fans everywhere were reviled when Yankee fans booed Papelbon during the All-Star game (after saying he wanted to close the game...which is his job). All opinions about Papelbon's comments aside (innocuous or disrespectful, I don't really care), I'm interested to see how Fenway will react if Rivera comes in to close or they bring him out late in a tie game. (I think we can all agree that we hope that the Sox provide Rivera with a few days off by getting some big leads early!)
So, if you're at Fenway, and Mo comes out of the Bullpen, how do you react?
A - You boo him. You always boo him. He's the closer for the most hated rival in sports, you boo because that's what he ALWAYS gets in Boston. It doesn't matter that baseball fans all thought Yankee fans had no class when they booed during an All-Star game, you KNEW they had no class. And to make them pay you'll return the favor.
B - You shut your trap. You're better than NY, those fans are terrible, they don't understand the game, and you don't want to hold the actions of some jerk from the Bronx against one of the greatest closers ever in the game. You'll cheer for the batters who face him, but you don't need the negativity.
C - What are you talking about? I left the game in the 7th, it's already 10 o'clock! These Sox/Yankees games take forever! What's a Papelbon? I had to leave, I couldn't hear my cell during the game and someone spilled beer on my pink cap while cheering because some Big Papi-something went "yaaahd."
or (Due to Popular Demand)
D - The Red Sox dominate all three games and by the time the Bronx Stink-Bombs return to Fenway this whole thing will be a non-issue. I'd rather spend the night heckling Joba while dressed as a bug, or wearing a mosquito net.
