Home Grown Talent
September 16, 2008
The Red Sox have made it a point in recent years to keep home grown talent up through the farm system. It has been paying off over the last few years, but I don't think they have seen the dividend like they have seen this year. Four players with numbers to illustrate what the farm system means:
Dustin Pedroia- Batting Average 1st in the AL. Runs, 1st in the AL. Hits, 1st ,in the AL. Doubles, 1st in the AL. Clear choice for MVP and last years ROY.
Kevin Youkilis- Batting Average 7th in AL. RBI's, 5th in AL. OBP, 6th in AL. SLG% 5th in AL. OPS, 4th in AL. Gold Glove and candidate for MVP.
Jacoby Ellsbury- First in AL in steals and ROY of candidate.
Jon Lester- Wins, 6th in AL. ERA, 4th in AL. Winning %, 3rd in AL. Games Started, Tied for 2nd in AL. Shutouts, Tied for 1st in AL. Innings Pitched, 7th in AL.
2 MVP candidates, a ROY candidate and a front of the rotation pitcher. All four now with playoff experience. With the combined 2008 salaries of...$4,284,000!!!
